  1. canada rocks! icon_smile.gif

to be a doc in canada you go through similar training in comparison to the us

you do make a lot less money, and you get income taxed 55%

unless you do hair transplants, which are not regulated by the government so docs are free to charge thousands per op

    your scalp donor looks amazing

makes me wish i didn't get stripped icon_frown.gif

i'm very interested to see how your body hair grows in

there are very few bht megasessions covering completely bald scalp

results from your 1st session are very nice

dr Umar is clearly the most talented ht doc in north america today icon_smile.gif

  3. i'm not insulting anyone

i think it's ridiculous that i can't post a direct link to my pics

    who does that benefit?

in general it will harm those who aren't aware of other forums

people should be exposed to as much info as possible

i'm simply trying to make an idealistic point that the HT community should be more open

i apologize if i offended you personally

i was waiting for my doc to post some pre- and intra-op pics of my procedure

the only pre-op pics i have are the ones posted on my blog, those were from may 2005 and my procedure was in nov 2005

i wasn't smart enough to take video of my head before my procedure

    hopefully someone else will

i attached one of those pics, there are many more pics posted as daywise progression on another forum

i'd post the link but i don't want this to get deleted

i apologize to those who are so stupid that they aren't aware of the other forums

they are the ones who are most likely to make poorly educated decisions concerning their hairloss

looking at the pic of my crown, it looks to me like i had more hair than i thought i did

most of my grafts were placed in the front half of my head, and the most robust grafts (chest) were saved for my crown

it has been a positive experience for me thus far

now if i look at my reflection i sometimes see a full head of hair, not all the time but sometimes, and that hasn't happened for probably 5-6 years

this is the first time in my life that my hair has improved

i used rogaine in high school and it still got worse

i had bald scalp sliced out and it still got worse

i got stripped twice and it still got worse

i started propecia a year prior to my bht and it still got worse

obviously if i look at my crown it's still wide open and my scar still shows, but it does give a significant psychological boost to see a full head of hair in your reflection

i've seen nice positive changes over the last week or two, if i continue to make good progress i might not need any more work

but if i do then another 5-6000 grafts concentrated on the crown and in my scar and i should be good to go

if i hit the powerball i'd go nuts and lower my hairline

    what happened to heliboy?

i was kinda excited to see him here

    did he get banned already?

  5. here is an update for my 8046 graft bht

i have some pics/vids posted on my blog

here are the pre-op pics from my blog:

    http://bodyhairtransplant.blogspot.com/2005/11/pre-op-pics.html

i started propecia one year prior to my bht, and started minox twice daily just after the procedure

i didn't use shampoo for the 1st 5 months or so, and i felt like it was showing continuous improvement up to that point

then it started to look like it was getting better and worse at the same time

i think some would grow and i'd lose those while others grew

i don't think the alcohol in the minox helped. i would use a couple mls each application because i have a large area to cover, but there would be days when it took me up to 45 min to get all the dead skin out of my hair

one week after that point around 5 months i started using nizoral twice a week and a natural shampoo daily

a couple months after i switched to head and shoulders with py zinc, and now i found another head and shoulders with selenium blue so i alternate those and use niz twice weekly

i recently switched from kirkland 5% minox to lipoxidil alcohol/ppg free minox, which i don't think i've used in the past 2 days and i think i will probably discontinue, i'm still a little ticked off that they promoted 2 for 1 on their website and i had to ask them for the 2nd bottle and i'm still waiting for it. that and it reminds me of menthol cigarettes and makes my hair sticky and sparse looking, so i might use the rest not to waste it, or maybe do the kirkland once a day

another habit i changed is that i haven't let the shower jets hit my scalp directly for probably 15-20 years now, so in the last couple weeks i lean forward in the shower and wash off shampoo/oil with cold and even colder water without using my hand

i haven't had much problem with the white stuff lately. i also dump apple cider vinegar on my head in the shower from time to time

i have noticed an improvement in my crown over the last week or so, hopefully it will continue to improve

around 850 of the grafts went into my strip scar

i would guess that the yield there was less, it's tough to count how many are growing but the strip is still clearly visible when my hair is wet

i have varying degrees of hypopigmentation in my body donor

i feel like they're gradually fading, but i'm not sure yet if they will fade completely

i personally would not mind if they stayed this way, having more hair on my head gives me more confidence so it's easy to deal with

i think i have at least as much body hair as i did pre-op, so if i let it grow it would cover those sites

i get stubble in around a day, which i know cause i shave everyday like a girl, i actually started practicing with the vandy women's basketball team, no one's mentioned anything yet, but i'm sure they're being polite

if anyone is considering bht they should get a test patch from their prospective clinic using potential donor areas, because it's going to be different for everyone, you can't base your experience on someone elses

a test patch will test the competence of the practitioner's technique, and the patient can see how their donor will look and extrapolate that to thousands of sites, since everyone has different skin pigment and wound healing characteristics

and the clinic should provide the service free of charge as incentive for the patient to drop thousands of dollars on a larger session. and it's not like it's free anyway cause the patient has to go through all the expense and hassle to get to the clinic

  7. if you do find the time to start experimenting again, there are easier things you could try before going big and leaving large scars all over someone's body (i'm sure you're familiar with the luckyman fiasco). i did see one case on another forum where a doctor took a strip from just above a patient's pubic area and arranged the grafts on his head, it looked horrible

try getting your patients to apply minoxidil to their donor regions for a couple months pre-op, and then have them shave their donors a couple days pre-op and only transplant body hairs that are actively growing

i would hope bht would progress to the point where yield is at least on par with scalp hair and there is no visible donor scarring

    s

  8. bht obviously isn't for everyone. if you have poor body hair characteristics, or if you shave your body hair and it doesn't grow back for a month or two, then you shouldn't transplant it to your head.

there are potential benefits to bht technology. if you have a strip scar that you want to fill in, instead of using scalp hair and being concerned with the donor area being noticeable until it grows back and heals, you could use body hair and you could go back to work the next day without any worries

    s

  9. HT's are limited by scalp donor availability. If you run out of scalp donor hair (ie. excessive hairloss) you don't really have any options until some sort of HM or stem cell technology comes online, and then the only way to know for sure that there are not adverse longterm effects is to test a large sample of individuals over time. BHT offers additional donor supply. at this point results are mixed, with each practitioner using their own techniques. if the technology progresses to the point where yield is on par with scalp HT and donor scarring is not an issue, then bht is a potential cure for individuals with sufficient funds and body hair
