I started thinning significantly in college ??“ 25 years ago now ??“ and ultimately advanced to a Bald Class 5 my mid 30's. While I had learned to live with baldness, it surely wasn't my choice. However, I was much more confident about living with hair loss than I was about talking to a physician about the possibility of doing something about it. Tripping across this site while searching for latest advances and miracle cures made all the difference. I owe Pat The Publisher of This Community a great debt of gratitude, as well as all you other members who have shared your experiences. As a result of all that information, I went to my consultation with few questions remaining other than whether or not I was a candidate, and if so, when I could schedule.

The consultation began with Ailene, Dr. Cooley's assistant, who is regularly praised in many of these threads. I can confirm every word is true ??“ she is the best. I can't say enough about Dr. Cooley's talents and professional style ??“ I truly can't remember getting this much personal attention and support at any time in my adult life, particularly from a physician. I had a 2500 graft session on May 18, and it was an experience I won't forget ??“ absolutely positive in every way. The long version of my experience is written in excruciating detail on my blog ??“ I'd encourage anyone who's interested in my impressions of this truly great doctor to check it out.

At one month out, virtually all of my transplanted hair has been shed, but I can feel the little whisker-like growth indicating my future appearance is alive and well. I'll do my best to update pictures as milestones and noteworthy things occur. In the meantime, I'm attaching the before and after pictures Dr. Cooley took the day of and the day immediately following surgery, along with a picture I took a week out. Although the pictures are also on the blog, they're such a great testament to Dr. Cooley's work that I think they're worthy of duplication here.

My HT was done exactly as KG mentioned. Doc was there till the incisions are made. Even the hairline was placed by technicians. Anyway I will not worry about it now as the HT and the hairline looks good to me. My HT was done by Dr Ashok Reddy in Hyderabad.

I have posted my pictures. But they did not go live yet. May be the pictures clarity was not good. I will get a good cam and I will keep posting the pictures along with the progress.

  3. I had a HT WITH DR.UEBEL IN PORTO ALEGRE LAST TUESDAY-it was not an FU, and I AM HOPING TO GET THE RESULTS OF A FU, they said they don't count the grafts, only that they do dense packing and megasessions??

Also, unless we see up to date photos of a particular doctor, it is better to err on the side of caution, and ask for photos. Compounding the issue is the insistance on reviving 2 or 3 year old threads to plug a doctor, without showing before and afters. I welcome doctors that want to show and prove to the world that they perform state of the art hairtransplantation, regardless of any affiliation they may or may not have, simply because if we have MORE doctors that do good work, we have LESS butchery or out-dated surgical techniques. All of this to better help US the sufferers. Matt, I hope you have achieved your goals, and continue to do so. I would like to see some detailed photos at this point, if you are going to push the issue here.

    2 cents

I am a physician and anesthesiologist in Miami, and underwent a hair transplant procedure four weeks ago with Dr. Charles of Boca. The process, before, during and after went better than any expectations. Dr. Charles and his staff made certain that the procedure and the process of hair trans-plantation went flawlessly and without pain. He made sure that the normal anxiety that I felt was eliminated with an oral sedative. I was given adequate sedation and I did not feel any discomfort during the times of injection in the surgical areas. During the lengthy procedure local anesthesia was applied as required without any discomfort. After the procedure his post-operative instructions were clear and went a long way making me comfortable during the first few days after surgery. I strongly recommend Dr. Charles from Boca to anyone that wants to have a successful experience with hair transplants.

  5. was it an FU ?

I had a couple questions I hope someone can help with:

    1. Does any one have any feedback about Dr. Meshkin in Beverly Hills/ Newport? He is on the list of good surgens in CA. but I havent heard anything about him on this site.

    2. What about Dr. Elliott in CA?

    3. I also have my pic's into Dr. Epstein and Dr. Shapiro and think I will go with one of them- but it would be so much more conveinent to go with Meshkin as I live less than an hour from his office.

    Any advice?

    Thanks guys-

He is in Brazil (he has offices in Europe too I hear) I am impressed and am planning a trip down there next month sometime. With his experience and pioneering efforts in the field of HT it seems an obvious choice. Toss in the fact that he is approx. $3 a graft and $4 for FUE grafts (the exchange rate is 3x!).

Here is what I know about him...see his work at [] Although he does FUE (since the 80's) but thinks that many hairs are damaged by this technique (transection..I think it is called). His current technique for the recipient holes is done with an erbium laser...this prevents the pucker that normal FU slits create. He is about to publish a paper about his success with a new technique using Platelet Growth factors for hair density and growth and is one of worlds top research doctors in terms of his work in hair cloning and utilizing stem cells for hair growth. He was highly recommended by one of the top plasic surgeons in Los Angeles....apparently a lot of celebrities go to this guy. Google him, you will see he is pretty highly regarded.

  9. check, www.hassonandwong.com, i believe they may be the best=i just had a punctiform micrograft proceedure, and hope i did not make a mistake

In fact, in the late 90s I had consults with several doctors. Only one of them (Beehner) had impressive results and a decent personality. I'm not sure Beehner is doing exclusively FUs and I'm not sure he's equipped for mega sessions.

Now, while HT is *expensive*, I can afford it, although it will set back my savings. That is not the biggest concern. . .

What it comes down to is that I'm deathly afraid of a botched result! I dont have unrealistic expectations, I'm just afraid of spending the price of a new automobile in one afternoon, waiting for nine months, only to find out the result is too thin, wispy, grows in funny, cant be styled, has a big donor scar so cant be cut short, loss of sensation, permanent pain, or worst of all it is *obvious*.

I havent even chosen a doctor and because of my fears, I'm not moving forward on this, although I should be.

Please someone talk some sense into me.

  10. I had a HT -Punctiform micrograft technique performed this past tuesday by dr uebel

    highpoint I thought was that:

"Upon harvesting and implantation, follicular units enter a latency period of three to four months.

"Sprouting is slow and progressive up to the seventh month, when all hair follicles will have germinated," Dr. Uebel says. "In normal implantations, yield is around 85 percent due to apoptosis of some follicular units."

I had thought it might be higher. Had I realised this I might have compensated.

Great to see news that research continues and making headway. Guys who can afford to wait a year or two should obviously.
