  1. Hello Everyone

I've been losing my hair since last year.Recently I saw my dermatologist and was diagnosed with Trichotillomania Areata. I was pretty sure that I have MPB.

The thing is, every hair I shed is very thick and continues to lose its thickness and pigment while going towards root. I mean my hair lose 80% of their thickness from tip to root. Isn't this the scenario in MPB?

As far as I know progressive thinning means Alopecia Areata.

    Thanks In Advance

  3. In theory it 1 mg finasteride every fourth day should be just as effective as one pill everyday. However, this is not the case. Some recent studies have shown that finasteride and minoxidil reduce type 1 pro-collagen near hair follicles. Since DHT is an anabolic steroid, it must have some role in incrasing the collagen production around hair follicle.

Truth is we do not know how finasteride works. MPb is certainly associated with androgens, but no one nose the mechanism of action. If we could figure that out, there would have way better drugs than finasteride on market.

  4. Add minoxidil to your regimen. Use any topical corticosteroid 2-3 times a week, give finasteride 1 more year, if you don't notice any difference drop finasteride.

Use higher percentage of minoxidil (10% lotion, may cause some side effects but don't go for 15% or something)

Use topical corticosteroid 2-3 times a week, Remember intermittent use will not have any systematic side effects.

If it still doesn't work, come back then!

Remember that sometimes medications only slow down the progression! so watch out for that.

  5. Both finax and finpecia are manufactured by well reputed companies, Dr. Reddy's and Cipla respectively.

If you have some friend or contact in India, ask them to send you finasteride.

Strip of 10s cost 35 Indian Rupees (less than a dollar)

Typical shipping charges to US/Europe from india (for upto 1/2 Kgs of package) is 700 Indian rupees which is less than 18 dollars.

  6. Taking more than than 1 mg would not do any good!

    Trust me.

Finasteride is Type 2 5-Alpha Reductase Inhibitor and reversibly causes very minor inhibition of Type 1 5-Alpha reductase.

Type 2 accounts for 2/3 of circulating DHT levels, and most you can block 80% DHT with finasteride.Period.

There wont be any benefit unles you ingest 8-10g of finasteride, which will wreck havoc on your progesterone metabolism!!

  7. Its better to stay away from minoxidil 15%. It can cause systematic side effects like water retention. increased heart rate. rapid weight gain etc. Just so you know, there are clinical studies which prove that adding tretinoin makes no difference at all!

So it'd be better to stay away from such a combination, unless you have tonnes of money to lose!

In fact tretinoin <STRIKE>can cause</STRIKE> causes scalp inflammation which might excrabate androgenetic alopecia.
