Where are you from? You mentioned Superdrug. Are you in the UK?

Yes the UK. I sent another pic where it didn't look as bad and they've said they'll authorise it now. I've just shaved my head and it doesn't actually look too bad at all. But still rather try save my hair. Just bit of a put down when they said the positives wouldn't outweigh the side effects and thinking is it worth it with the finasteride. It looks like it could be saved as there's still hair, just thin

You've lost a lot.  That said, everyone responds differently to drugs.  There are outlier cases where some people regain a lot of their lost hair on Fin/Min/Dermarolling.  You can't know until you try.  As for your doctor, he's an idiot, I'd get another one if he won't prescribe you Fin.

That pic makes it look a lot worse. I know it's pretty bad but the lighting didn't help. Sent another pic and they've authorised it now. They said the side effects outweighed the positive. I must admit I've been reluctant to try it with all scare mongering out there. Know most are bs but some will be true. Thing is apart from crown there is actually a full head of hair there. They've just really thinned and lightened. I was hoping that combination would make them fuller and darker.

Here's another pic from front where it doesn't look as bad.

  3. I recently tried to apply for finasteride at super drug but was declined by the doctor due to extent of hairloss. I was going to use fin x3 a week, minoxidil twice a day, derma roller twice a week with nizoral shampoo. I know I've left it late but was hoping for some results and after a year to 18 months get a transplant. Am I wasting my time fighting or should I just bite the bullet, shave it and get smp. Not end of the world. Least I'm still healthy lol

Narmak thanks for your advice. I've gone with the exact recommendation you suggested. I'm literally getting the derma roller and fin today, already have minoxidil. I've got to at least try do something. I regret leaving it too late. The lighting in the pics doesn't help to be honest. Apart from the crown area, I've still got all the hair at the front and top, just lightened in colour and thinned really bad. I know it's gonna take at least a year and not expecting miracles but excited to see if this combination strengthens and darkens the hair already there. If I don't get any result at least I can say I tried and be happier knowing I did something about it. Then it'll be pretty much shave it off and get smp. More to life than hair, like your health and kids health or a roof over your head. I'll keep updating.

    Thanks

Narmak I tried to get a prescription for finasteride from superdrug but they've declined and refunded me. Said there's basically no hope taking it?

Firstly you should actually try Finasteride. A lot of the horror stories out there put off a lot of guys yet account for like 2% of cases and even then, most of them who stopped had their stuff return to normal and in some cases, it's because of underlying issues that side affects are worse.

Looking at the top of your head, you look like you have diffuse thinning all over. Pump the brakes on any hair transplant for 12-24 months.

#1 - Start Finasteride. Use 1mg 3x a week and then increase dosage if you feel fine.

#2 - Add in Microneedling and Minoxodil + Nizoral (Ketoconazole shampoo)

#3 - Use the 12-24 months to save up, do your research and re-evaluate your hair transplant once you know how the treatments above have worked.

Believe it or not, if you can recover lost ground with the medication, this can drastically reduce how much grafts you might need and where. It's ALWAYS better to get your natural hair back with a treatment plan.

You never mentioned your age but i'm gonna go out on a limb and say in your 20s. Don't make decisions that will impact the rest of your life rashly.

  6. I'm not expecting miracles. I'm aware 68 percent of patients saw some regrowth. I was just asking if the already thinning hairs would grow back fuller and darker due to dht being blocked. I'm a bit at a cross roads now tbh. I'm not really happy with it looking as it is. I'm aware I've been late in starting fin. I just want a thicker appearance and then look into a transplant

  7. What expectations could I expect if I started taking finasteride right away. Would it thicken my thinning hairs. I've still got a lot of hair in the front and mid section. Feels just same as my back and sides. They've just thinned a lot and lightened in colour which is giving the appearance it's worse than it is. If it thickened and darkened the hairs I'd only maybe need some density adding and the crown by fue

  8. I'm about to turn 34. I can still feel all the hairs on my head. Like stubble. I would hope they would return from using finasteride. My crown has completely gone tho. Not much hope for that lol I know a lot of them reviews are complete nonsense but believe some are real

  9. Hi just wondering what's best to do? Been losing hair for 5 years now and been trying to book an hair transplant in Turkey for over 2 years now but couldn't due to covid restrictions. Hair seems to have got worse. I've thought about trying finasteride but worried about the sides and not sure if it's too late now anyway, I was going to book for a 4400 graft transplant in Turkey but don't think it'll provide much density over the area, even with a second transplant later on. Feeling only option is smp tbh.
