    Hey mate,

    Congratulations, your hair looks fantastic!

I'm in pretty much an identical situation to yourself: Mid-late 20's, balding on only my fathers side, and temple recession mostly.

I was looking to get unshaven for work and things like that also.

Just wondering, did the doctor discuss potential shock loss/future hair loss with you?

It's something people on this forum are very mindful of - so I was curious whether he made a plan or felt it necessary with you?

    Congrats again :)

    Thank you!

Shock loss was brought up after the transplant was finished. I was told that if I experienced it, it would be temporary.

I was also told that I might experience future hair loss around the temple area - which is why I decided to get on finasteride as well.

Good to know! Did you find that you were able to go out somewhat passably after the first week, or did it still look noticeably strange up until the first 1-2 months when things started blending in?

In my opinion, I would say I was able to go out somewhat passably after the first week - but that might obviously vary from person to person. I tried to avoid going out on windy days during the first few weeks haha!

Great result and thanks for the detailed write up!

Out of curiosity, how long did it take for you to look reasonably normal without a hat after your procedure? I'm having a similar surgery to strengthen my hairline next week and trying to prepare myself for that ugly duckling phase.

    Thank you!

Great question, I was definitely worried about that ugly duckling phase as you put it.

For the first week after the transplant i didn’t touch my hair at all in terms of styling (left it slicked back as you see in the immediate post op photos). After a week, I let my regular hair “fall down” on to my transplanted hair to “cover it up” if you will. I purposely grew out my hair as long as I could before the transplant so I could use it to cover up my transplanted areas. During that first week I also took off work to recover/hide haha.

It wasn’t until roughly 1-2 months that things started to “blend” in really and I began to look “normal”

No one around me really noticed, or if they did...I didn’t get any comments.

wow great result. you aren’t featured on any of their youtube videos are you? just curious.

looks like you can sport a pretty short haircut. how’s the incision line?

    happy for you man

    Thank you!

I am not in one of their youtube videos as of yet...I submitted my 1 year and 18 month photos to Dr. Bloxham about a week ago!

Incision line is not really noticeable unless I go below a 4 guard. Overall, pretty unimpressionable.

  5. Greetings all,

I've been a lurker of these forums and other related forums for a while now, and I would like to share my hair transplant experience/results by Dr. Bloxham of Feller & Bloxham who performed a FUT of 2500 grafts on me back in July of 2017. I e-mailed him a few days back thanking him for the amazing results and apologizing for taking such a while to get back to him (Told him he could interpret that as a good sign given that I was enjoying life with my new head of hair!). I couldn't be happier with my result! I hope this post helps someone out!

All photos below are taken with dry hair (with the exception of the immediate post op photo) , no product in them whatsoever (only styled with my hands or a comb). I also got on Finasteride 1mg daily for the first time roughly 2 weeks post-op and have been on it since.

Some basic info about me: currently 26, was 25 when I received the transplant. Multiple instances of hair loss on my fathers side (including my father), none on my mothers side. Hair loss was most prominent on my temples (Left temple being the worst). It's hard to say when I first started experiencing hair loss but if I had to take an educated and conservative guess it would be in my early 20s (20-22).

During the procedure: Head was shaved down, got numbed up. Dr. Bloxham performed the slits and kept me alert with good conversation, genuinely enjoyed talking to him. 3-4 technicians performed the graft installations - they were great as well and thoroughly enjoyed talking to them.

Post-op: I slept upright at a 30-45 degree angle for a about a week and lightly rinsed my hair/grafts with shampoo & water mixture in a cup which formed suds. I let my hair air dry afterwards, didn't use a towel until 2 weeks in really (and even then I would be gentle with it). Nothing else for my post-op routine.
