  1. Hi,

I honestly don't need a top-ranked surgeon. I'll be gone in 30 yrs or less. I just would like to be able to afford a decent crown transplant so I'm able to ditch my cap every time I go out. It doesn't need to be perfect. My hairline (provided by Dr Keane) is still pretty solid. At my age though, I need to think about my retirement and holding onto funds. That said, has anyone had good results using a doctor that was affordable?

Don't get me wrong, I respect the talent that the top-ranked surgeons provide (I used one 15 yrs ago), but I don't think I need perfection now.  I'm hoping their are interns or newly established offices out there that can work with me on price.

If it isn't a possibility, I'll abandon the idea and close up shop here.

    Thanks :)

  2. Hi all,

15 years ago I had two FUT frontal HTs with Dr. Keane in Tucson AZ. The hairline she created has held and it's been relatively successful. Now unfortunately at 60, my crown has depleted quite a lot and my hair shafts have thinned giving the "see through" look a lot of options. The greying helps but it's not enough "to not notice" my scalp. I can comb my frontal hair back to partially cover the crown but it's rarely successful.

To be honest, I have no idea what's available to me now (if anything?). I know given my age, this may not be a good idea and may result in further crown loss. However I would really like to be able to leave the house without feeling the need to wear a cap all the time. I'm also hoping that the techniques and tools available now (15 yrs later) have improved to the point where a successful outcome might play in my favor 🤔.

Any suggestions for a surgical review or surgeon?  No doubt Dr. Keane would probably do a good job but I'd like to get someone with a good reputation for crown work. I live in Southern California but can travel the U.S.

    Thanks

  3. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I had 3900 grafts transplanted to my hairline & mid-scalp in 2007. Even though I was encouraged to take finasteride post surgery, I found that the sexual side effects were too intense and stopped shortly after. Now at 56, with my hair thinning in areas previously grafted, I'm trying the Big 3 to try to create some density and postpone another surgery. After 4 months, it seems like I'm getting some results.

Does anyone know if "older" transplanted grafts (less prone to DHT effects) can be helped by these medications?

    Thanks

  4. Thank you for those suggestions. I think Dr. Konior may be my best option here. I've reviewed a few of his videos and I like his approach to HT. Of course, my current Rog/Fin regimen needs to be played out. I think I'm seeing results at the 4 month mark?, but still unsure...

Does Dr. Konior have a long waiting list? (rep?) I'd like to put that possibility into motion soon,

    Thanks again

  5. Yeah - try one out! You may like it enough to get more

Haha! Remember I've had two already.. 10 years ago! They can be addicting!

Ok, I uploaded three more pictures. Two sides.. one front. As you can see I heavily rely on my frontal hair to camouflage the back. My hair shaft diameter is really thin too, probably due to my age and a thyroid issue I was diagnosed with a few years back. The see-through effect is very evident... trust me! :D

  6. Hello friends…

I’m a 56 year old male from S.California. I frequented this forum about 10 years ago before my surgeries with Dr. Keane in 2007 (3900 frontal/mid-scalp grafts). Now nature has taken its course and my crown (and its surrounding areas) have depleted a lot. I no longer can comb my hair back to cover it and I always wear a hat in public. I’ve been on Rogaine and Finesteride since 10/2016 with no noticeable improvement. I might be too old for these treatments to work now?

This year, if my current regimen doesn’t prove helpful, I’m considering crown restoration. I’m worried however that the surgery may cause shock loss to my remaining hair. Please review my album. What would you do?

    Thanks a lot!
