Personally would be inclined to hold off and maybe carry on with covering with toppik. There's still hair in the balding area and not sure it's the best of ideas for your first procedure to start off from the vertex/crown transplanting amongst that native hair if you are not on fin. I'd imagine balding will continue in that area and you may find yourself back to square one fairly quickly once the native hair goes and you are left with the transplanted hair in there.

Plus frontal region may also suffer in the future and the focus should probably be to preserve as many grafts for that area if/when it takes a hit rather than commit too much to the back of the head (can require a lot of grafts to make a difference in the vertex/crown area).

Re - small sessions sound good on paper but to make a difference, will still require a fair amount of grafts and chasing after hair loss is risky business and think in some way it's probably better letting a clear pattern develop. In your case, without fin question is where will the frontal area be in a few years time.

Thx for your reply. What if I have enough donor hair to cover future frontal hairline after doing vertex area HT? because the surgeon told me that I have much of donor area above 8000 grafts and my hair is dense so even few hairs can make a difference once they are dry and use some type of boosters/paste product. Also, what do you think about having a partial crown topper hair system for a few years until 35 and see how is my hair by then? Because I am noticing toppik can no hide enough of hair thinning areas and the top part is just flying around looking weak, It needs some support either with a partial crown topper or small session of fue...

  2. Hi guys,

33 Years old here been suffering from hair loss since being 20 and it's going worse but at a very slow pace. I attached some photos of my current hair with/without concealer.

propecia and minoxidil are out of question now because I tried them in the past 10 years either with no benefit or with side effects. The last dr I consulted asked me to stick with finasteride 6 months minimum before doing my first fue.

My question is if I want to use finasteride at all is it the proper age to start my first fue? or should I stick with concealer and wait it up for a few more years? or just give up and shave it up/use a hair system?

PS: I think in my case with thick sides and longer hair toppik is doing me a nice work. Can I do small sessions of FUE and use the help of combing over/toppik to keep going at the same pace?

I don't know why some people telling me if I did a HT at this stage I will ruin my life specially if I opt not to use fin, but if I can't use fin and I have enough donor for future HTs why shouldn't I do it? I mean do I really have other options?

  4. I'm no expert and barely have an opinion on anything. But 5) if I were you, I'd probably get the hairline and middle third done and maybe a smattering in the crown if you have enough grafts. But you really need to go see some good docs to be told what is possible. You're very likely to continue to lose hair, and while your hairline looks pretty good to me now, you don't want to have put all your grafts in the crown only to realise you don't have a hairline or the grafts to fix it in ten years' time.

    2) 3) and 5) Waxes, lasers, lotions and potions - the literature on the efficacy of all of those things (save min and fin) is marginal to negligible. Again, if it was me, and I couldn't tolerate fin, I'd try minoxidil, maybe a good multi-vitamin and saw palmetto.

And while I'm at it, 4) shaving, not shaving, wearing hats - all these are really minor to the main aim, which is to get a decent head of hair again. You might want to use these to differentiate between equal options, but I wouldn't let short-term factors like these lead your overall decision.

Thanks again for your input really appreciate it.

  5. Hi Mohammad,

    Welcome!

Thank you for sharing those images. You do an excellent job with the concealers, but I understand the urge to not use them any longer.

Which leads me to your questions:

    1) I think you would be a candidate for a hair transplant procedure if you wanted to take that route. Your hair loss pattern is pretty well established, and it does look like you have adequate donor. The only way to know for certain, however, is to consult with hair transplant doctors in person. And I do recommend this. One -- or more -- of these doctors can evaluate your donor and discuss some possible surgical options (if you are, indeed, a candidate).

    2) I don't think any of these oils or waxes would necessarily hurt -- or really help for that matter. There is some theory behind scalp inflammation and hair loss, but I don't think you would worsen your situation by keeping wax in your hair overnight. Nor do I think you would improve it with oils. Most of this, unfortunately, is all genetics. Any shampoo will do unless you're looking for one that may work to help battle the hair loss. If this is the case, many like using ketoconazole-based shampoos. Discuss these with the hair loss doctor if you do get a chance to meet with one.

    3) I personally don't think so.

    4) It all depends on the clinic. Almost all have different post-operative instructions and many have different philosophies on shaving versus not-shaving.

Hope this helps! Best of luck.

Hi Dr, thanks for your reply I really appreciate.

I should visit a Ht dr soon, however some ppl told me that I will ruin my life if I go for HT at this stage? why is that? they didn't explain..

And some are saying that HT won't work as good if you don't want to use fin ever? but if I have enough donor for future Hts I can nail it without meds?

  6. Hi all.

This is Mohammad. I am a hair loss sufferer as most of you here. I registered before doing any move to have an advice from experts in this field. I visited some Drs in my country which I didn't feel that they are being honest with their answers, the plan was traveling abroad for a HT but still I was hoping for a good dr in my country to enlighten me.

I noticed that I have a thin hairline from my teen age around 18. On 23 the crown area was obvious and I almost did a HT. Tried fin and gave me side effects in my sexual life that took me months to be clear from mentally and physically. Thank god am clear from it now and I decided to not opt for the pills anymore. With the help of hairdresser who introduced me to toppik I was able to use it on daily basis and so far am happy with the result.

Now am 29 and I don't want to use concealers. I want to cut my hair shorter and feel natural, glad that I didn't do a HT before 5 years as now i noticed the thinking reached wider area. Here is pics of my current situation :

And here is pics of my daily routine after using topic + my dad hairline he's 62 now:

When I was 23 my mentality was to have a HT and I will have dense hair forever, and I was going to choose the cheaper options available. Now I read more about this and my financial life is much better as I can opt for the best only.

I want your genuine thoughts about :

1- should i opt for HT now? how does my donor area looks like? I don't want to look silly on my 50s or so if more original hair falled and I don't have more donor hairs for other Transplants.

2- in the last 5 years I used to put little wax along with topik, sleep overnight and wash with normal shampoos like head and shoulders, I want to take care of it now What are best options for scalp which kind of shampoo should I use? oils before sleeping etc?? will it make a difference?

3- Low level lazer therapies, Igrow later will it make a difference?

4- After HT how soon I can wear a hat or use toppik again? with my hair style as above photos am i a good candidate for HT without shaving?

5- What will be your plan if your in my shoes?( Without fin, minor etc... )

Sorry if am not being clear in any part as english is not my first language, I am no expert in online search and forum using but anyone who reply kindly note that your opinion will be taken very seriously and will help me in this decision.
