When it comes to concealers, hair pieces and hair transplants, if you own it, you've won. I would be thinking about this in terms of what product makes me feel like I look best. Anything else is conjecture. I've been there with all these experiences and I am talking from my own lived experience. The benefit has also been that it has made other people, girlfriends feel at ease with their own insecurities and everyone has them. Real or imagined. All the best!

Hey Gatsby. So toppik has been a lifeline for me and I am really hoping I am in my last 2 months of having to use it regularly with my HT coming up this June. This has largely worked very well for me but nowadays, wind is my enemy and of course, when I sleep and wake up, my entire crown is visible. This was NOT the case a few years ago so I am just looking for something to address that part.

99.9% likely your hair was not the issue. That's just the realities of the dating game. She ghosted you after the second stay over... That's barely even dating at that point really. People get ghosted in those early stages all the time.

it was Date #5 though and it was going ABSURDLY well until then. Part of my reason for  HT is to take away that 0.1% chance that the hair was the issue. I would not have cared if it was someone I met on an app. It was a friend of a friend - and that's what made the situation awful.

If you're waking up with a girl then you're already in, aren't you? She likes you already. Some visible balding on the crown isn't going to be a problem at that point. There's really nothing to worry about. The best way to deal with hair loss in front of others is to own it; joke about it, make light of it. It's honestly fine - nothing bad will happen!

Unclear  - since she disappeared after that second sleepover and ghosted me for a whole month before we both got forced under the same roof (got invited to a party by common friends) and she made up some nonsense about why she bailed but a part of me cannot help but wonder if this was the issue. By then, the extent of the balding was also much higher. Obviously, with the upcoming surgery, I am hoping it minimizes the extent to which I have to worry about situations like these because I was pretty devastated after this. A part of me also feels like the spray would have held things together. Obviously, had this gone a few more dates, I would have definitely told her about this. I would not hide it. I certainly did NOT hide it from the girl I dated prior to this one but she never saw the extent of the hair loss - since my hair line was largely ok.

Tressemme hard hold is my go to, but if you really want nuclear staying power, use bed hed-hard head hair spray. You can dunk your head in water, nothing is coming out.

I am so glad there is a thread for this and I truly appreciate the guidance here. I started using Toppik sparingly (I'd run through one container a month - sometimes it lasted longer) when I was 28. It was undetectable and rain/wind didn't make a difference. I was transparent with my girlfriend (at the time) a few years later since I used a dark pillow cover and it wasn't an issue. Now, when I was 36, it MIGHT have become an issue (but it's unclear as to how much of an issue). I had mastered sleeping in a way that would prevent the toppik on my crown from moving prior to that but I might have slept awkwardly during a second sleepover date with a girl I was seeing at the time. I know my hair moved awkwardly that second time and the gaps in my crown might have been incredibly visible. Now, that I am 42, wind is my enemy. It completely wrecks my crown (regardless of how I apply toppik - especially when i apply it sparsely). Fortunately, I am getting my HT done this June by Dr Arika Bansal (Eugenix) in Mumbai but I want to make sure I have some sort of solution until then. These days, when I sleep and wake up my bald crown is completely revealed when I wake up. The rest of my head looks fine and when I look at the mirror in the morning, I don't necessarily see a balding guy. Obviously, this is a non-issue when I am alone but in the event that my dating life has an upswing (yes, I am still single!) in the near future, I want to make sure I am adequately prepared. Any suggestions on what do for bed would be great - that way, I don't wake up with a massive balding crown fully on display. I also agree that being transparent post 3rd or 4th date is wise.

@WhamHair I have not used Toppik a lot to be fair. However I have always used the strongest hair spray holder after applying it. All the best!

Thank you so much. I've never really had to use the spray holder until now (somehow got away without having to use it for 14 years but as I said, nature is taking its course and is becoming harder). I will give this a shot. Hopefully, I won't have to use this OR much Toppik after my scheduled surgery with Dr Bansal at Eugenix in Mumbai this June!

  6. Toppik has been a lifesaver for me and has given me at lease a decade of NOT having to constantly worry about my hair loss but the natural forces at play are making Toppik not nearly as effective as it used to be. In the past, I just had to spray at little at the back of the head and didn't have to worry about anything - wind, rain - nothing at all. Now, with the extend of my hair loss having progressed further, I do have to use a lot of more of it and wind is my hair's enemy. In view of this, I am curious as to which of the following holds the hair and the toppik in position better:

    a. Hair gel followed by the application of Toppik (I've tried this before and it served its purpose)

    b. Toppik on my hair followed by spraying FiberHold (obviously, not something I plan to make a ritual of).

Any suggestions with regards to the above based on your experiences will be super helpful. Thank you in advance.

It's all about results for me.  I'm a Norwood 6+ and every YouTube/Instagram example with heads like mine, Dr. Pittella has the best results for Giga Sessions (2 consecutive days).  I liked the feedback from everyone that had their work done by Dr. Pittella.  Also, he is very skilled in using beard hair which I will use.  I wish surgeons in the USA could do it with similar results but haven't found them.

This is definitely a good reason to go with Dr Pittella. He seems to do good work on high Norwood folks. It's a bummer we don't have comparable options (at comparable costs) here in the US. Thanks so much for this context.

Thank you for commenting.  It was a surprise to me and I'm struggling with the amount of time before the date but I don't see a better Dr. around for my specific case.  Sincerely wish you the best in finding what's right for you.

Of course. Just out of curiosity, what is it about your specific case that makes Dr Pittella the only person for the job? I will admit that I like the guy a lot. In our virtual consultation, he had this attitude of "this consultation only ends when you want it to and feel like you've got your questions answered" despite the official consultation time only being 30 minutes. Mine went WAAAAY over. The guy is generous with his time and is humble.

I also had a recent video consult with Dr. Pittella.  I was offered late Jun 2025 (2 days).  The 2 packages, as folks have stated, have gone up for sure.  I am looking at around 10,000 grafts (best guess looking at pics).

FYI, I was asked to deposit $6KUSD to reserve the June 2025 dates.  Were you also asked for a reservation deposit?  I've haven't responded yet as I'm trying to figurer out if this is normal practice for the majority of highly sought after surgeons.

I would be flying from California which is quite a trip but would make the most of it with my wife. I could not find surgeons in United States that does Giga Sessions and more importantly the quality of the results compared to Pittella.

Again, just curious if you were asked for a deposit to secure transplant dates.

I actually wasn't asked for a deposit since I had not gone as far as committing to a date. I didn't want to wait until next year (I really wish I had revisited the HT thing 2 or 3 years ago). I think reservation deposits are normal. I just didn't expect it to be as high as $6k USD for Dr Pittella.

  10. I sent a few questions over the staff at Eugenix over the weekend to get a sense of what aspects of the surgery Dr Bansal is involved in - especially since there are concerns here about her shutting from one surgery room to another. I expressed my concern to the team and this is what they reverted with:

"Firstly, in the super premium package, Dr. Arika Bansal will personally perform the procedure.

Secondly, it is advisable to discontinue the use of Minoxidil at least 7 to 30 days before the procedure.

Lastly, as part of the super premium package, Dr. Arika Bansal will be responsible for the planning, designing, and complete slits. The remaining aspects of the procedure will be carried out by senior technicians under the supervision of the leading doctor.

I understand that clarity regarding the commercials and the level of doctor's involvement is crucial for you. To address any further questions or concerns, I believe that a quick call between us would be beneficial in providing better communication and understanding."

For those of you that leveraged Eugenix, did you hear something similar from their office while NOT experiencing what they outline here?

Surgery is a one time event which is a significant one and convenience shouldn't be a factor in choosing a surgeon. Should never let convenience be an influencing factor tbh.

So imho you should choose the one whose results you like the most and the one in whom you have greater confidence.

This is the part that I am trying to validate. I am trying to do the trade-off between my take on comparative competence and how soon I can do this. I already feel like I am addressing this a few years later than I should have. But in essence, I agree with you.

For sure, but Pitella and Sethi are almost identical price so I think that’s why that debate starts. And almost everyone has to travel quite a bit to either India or Brazil. I do think Pittella is more transparent about how he runs his practice. Sethi has a ton of employees who work under for him for sure, both great!

On a per-graft basis, their prices are almost identical for sure. Hence, the "price per graft" criteria has gone out the window for me at this point. I think it's a holistic decision provided I there are no lingering doubts about Eugenix to do the job. This post is just be doing my due diligence but echoing your assertion on why this is a source of debate.

It is difficult to find a skilled plastic surgeon who is also humble and willing to spend as much time with the patient without giving any indication of rushing. This combination is rare…and Dr. Pittella is one such doctor. Speaking from my very recent experience.

I 100% agree with you. I really like the guy but I don't have any hope of getting work done by him this year - and I am at a juncture where this needs to get done earlier than next year. Ideally, I should have done this a few years ago but I was battling other health issues that made my concerns with my hair loss a relative pleasure cruise in comparison. Obviously, if after more investigation, I find that waiting until next year for Dr Pittella is the best path forward, that is exactly what I will do. Thanks a ton!

Yes, they did their best to fix a badly done HT (low density, donor over harvested, poor hairline designing, double grafts in hairline). My experience with them vs my experience for my first HT not comparable at all.

I think all the technicians know what they're doing. Moreover, if you're clear about your expectations and overall planning I don't think there will be any complications. And if you've some confusion, you can discuss further to solve it. As I've already said, both of them are excellent surgeons so I don't think there will be any risks involved. Now you've to choose any of them based on other factors. Best wishes 👍🏼

Thanks so much for the reassurance.

I would have easily gone with Dr. pittella. He is a amazing doctor and from what you wrote it seems he cares and that is really important.

He really does care and his entire demeanor is pleasant and reassuring and I love how he fixed on specific things that he said I should remember (even if I forget everything else). I also like that he didn't try and sell me on picking him to do the HT. That being said, with him, I may not have the ability to  get the HT done this year, the cost implications are huge, and more importantly, I'll be on my own for recovery - while having a lot of support at home if I did this at Eugenix in Mumbai (that being said, I want to understand what my risks are with Eugenix).

Pittella hands down. You know exactly what you are getting when you go. His new Norwood scale also gives you a tailor made procedure.

Eugenix have been a great option  in the past but recently I’ve seen a few questionable results. The involvement of more junior techs would alarm me.

Thanks so much for this. Can you shed more like on some of these questionable results? I am very curious to know what went wrong.

Think long term (like forever). Go with who you feel you have the best communication with. Great surgeons are booked out far in advance for good reason. I wouldn't factor cost into this. Wishing you all the best with whoever you choose.

makes sense. Part of the thought of the long term also feeds into my concerns around burning through a lot of grafts at the first go. But your point is well taken.

At least she was in and out of surgery room...in my case Dr Sethi was just Out 😆

that is pretty crazy since i get the sense the package tied to him is even pricier than the one with Dr Bansal. I guess the question of consequence here is - are you happy with the job they did for you in terms of aesthetic results? Would love to know.

  19. On 1/16/2024 at 11:19 AM, Shadman said:

I think both of them are excellent surgeons. No matter with whom you proceed, you're good to go. But from my experience what I want to say about Eugenix is that, each and every technicians know what they're doing. So, even if Dr. is outside during that moment nothing inappropriate would happen. Moreover, in my case in every 20-30 minutes overall work was monitored.

This is good to know - and in your case, judging by your post signature, it looks like they fixed an initially badly done transplant by another surgeon - so I imagine that went a long way in reaffirming your faith in their competence.

He must have just put his prices up, I have a quote from him dated December 2023 at 4 USD for the "VIP" package

    image.png.6f229f34737a50e7a610b73a344839de.png

This is definitely a recent price bump since I spoke to him just a little over a month ago and the price for each package was $1 less per graft. This does change the economics of getting a HT from him quite dramatically.
