My advice is to get the mindset right at this stage. The other stuff will change with time. You have to prepare for the 'doldrums' (Month 1- 3) and I would say 'compromise' is the best word for it.
Be neither the wierdo or reckless. Experiment with different lengths and products to see how short you can get away with it for. If you have only mild recession and a decent shock of hair, you may be able to sail through it just looking a bit thinner, but shockloss and scar widening may force you to adapt in other ways - so be prepared to compromise.
Scar5 is right, you gotta try and adjust your mindset. Luckily, I am able to wear a hat in my line of work, so I've been hiding under one for the past 5 months, while looking like a 'weirdo' underneath. That doesn't mean I haven't been self-conscious about the hat - my colleagues have made comments. I even had someone say 'Are you bald underneath?'I'd check out 1978matt's thread - he mentions his approach after his first haircut at 21 days:
Thanks for the input. I just read through 1978matt's thread and his results are just amazing. When I first got to page 3 of his haircut, I was like - man, that's me!! But by month 6 its just unreal.
At least i have an idea of what i can achieve with the haircut.

Wow! I just read through and I'm wishing for this kind of result. That is just phenmomenal.

I'm 2 weeks post-op (strip) and I cannot figure out what to do with my hair. Do I shave the whole thing and expose the scar or look like a weirdo with nothing on top!?
-
Best of luck! Let us know how it goes.
Thanks. As i look at the scar area, it's still very short around there. It will not be easy to cover up. WWhen I let the longer hair around it fall over it, it's not obvious but with the buzzcut up top, I will look like a sure-fire loser in front of the client! I still have a few days...

I am in a very agressive sales environment. The dinner is with a key prospective client. It's a dog-eat-dog world where I work.
I think I will have to go as short as I can on the back and sides and cover up the scar with toppix. It won't be pretty but it might get me through the night

Thanks for the reply. I might not get sacked but I know my work may be affected, I'm sure. Not the greatest scenario but it pays the bills.
I have left my hair long for now. But if I go with a 4 guard all around (to hide stitches) and shaved on top, I will look terrible, no?
Can i use toppik on top or that will be too obvious?

I am a week post FUT. I have taken a few weeks off work to recover covertly. However, my boss has invited me for aa work function/dinner next week. At least my sutures will be out but what can I do about my hair?
Will the scars be visible? I have not yet shaved the rest of my head.. Will I still have scabs on top?
I cannot refuse the invite! Last guy that did this is gone.
Can anyone share post-FUT hair styles where the scar is not visible?
Thank you all

Photos always help an assessment. How short do you keep your sides?
Not long but no buzz cut. I will try to get some pics here.
"FUT is also significantly cheaper than FUE"I understand that this is just one of your reasons, but some of the best FUE doctors I have seen charge $2.75-3.50 per graft. I am talking about Dr Doganay an Dr Erdogan from Turkey. They truly are some of the best, I can not afford them but if money was not issue I would seriously go to one of these doctors. With 4000 grafts with Doganay I think you are looking at around $12,000, as opposed to $28,000-$40,000 from North American/European doctors.
I live in Canada and while I see the potential savings in flying all the way to Turkey, if something goes wrong, it's quite far to have to travel back.
If you go with FUT and as you are living in Canada, H&W is a no-brainerWow! That's my problem. So many good doctors and each have their following. It's not easy especially when you're talking about this kind of investment.

I'm more than thinking! I think I'm ready to decide. I had my heart set on FUE but Dr. Rahal has recommended 4000 grafts and would need 2 sessions. I don't think I can undergo 2 of these given the work I do and the fact that i am always with people.
I'm now back to debating FUT vs FUE. But if I go with FUT, should I consider Hasson/Wong?
This is tough. The one drawback to FUT, for me, is the scar. But, realistically, I will never, ever shave my head. I just don't see it. FUT is also significantly cheaper than FUE.
This is real tough. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.
Thank you
