  1. I had my HT in Feb 2014 with the well-regarded Farjo clinic (UK). After a few weeks research I decided to go ahead and a week after my consultation I was offerred a good price due to another patient cancelling.

Immediately after it was over I was full of buyer's remorse! I had a long scar, metal staples in my head and looked odd, and I paid $$$$ for this!

Four weeks later and looking very bald I kept visting these boards and reading posts to reassure myself that it's all normal. I also read expert opinions and the shedding period is normal - albeit hard to endure!

My scar healed well and after three months the hair started growing. A few more months and the growth continued.

It's now exactly six months to the day and I have good growth, I am happy with it. I no longer look bald and don't give my hair a second-thought, I feel much better in company. I hope there is still a little bit more growth to come but if not then I still consider it money well spent.

I was 46 at the time of the op and still had some hair at the top and dense sides and I hope at this age I will not lose much more native hair. I have never taken medication for any condition, ever (except for surgery) so the idea of taking hair medications is a non-starter for me, I value my health too much.

Every case is different so the only advice I will offer is that you should choose a good doctor.

I haven't posted any photos from the outset because I don't have the nerves of steel to deal with all the inevitable unfavourable opinions. The only opinion that matters to me is mine and the surgeon's.

Good Luck to all of you.

  2. I had my HT 9 weeks ago with Farjo in the UK.

I'm starting to get regular prickly sensations a few times daily and was wondering if this is the 'start' of growth, ie hairs breaking through the skin. Some of these sensations can be sharp and momentarily painful.

Would like to hear from veterans!

    Thanks in advance.

  3. I'll second what Matt1978 said about Farjo and Mick. I had an op at Farjo in Manchester in Feb and despite being in the 'ugly duckling phase' (I'm ugly anyway!) I feel reassured that I chose Farjo because they are specialists and have an excellent track record. I have also found Mick to be most humble and helpful in this stressful business.

  4. Could some one explain to me how this Dr is recommended on this site then please. If there are no signs of good work , it does not look good to recommened here. Whats going on?

I'd like to know the answer to this too. It is vital that this site retains its integrity and supports good surgeons and criticizes those who fall below the high standards which are expected.

  5. Anyone who has had a transplant! I lucky enough to have 3 wonderful ones!

Knows that feeling where it feels like the new hairs are like little pins poking through your skin.

It's wonderful when you have had it before because you know it's the new hair

waking and growing. I have it to day after a Feb 21 2014 procedure!

Hey that sounds interesting! You've had 3 HTs so we can trust what you say. Now this 'tingly' feeling is something I have been getting 5-6 times daily for a week and they started two weeks post-op. I don't know if the 'tingly' feeling is actually hair coming through but that's what I've convinced myself it is, who knows maybe positive thinking will help a little!

  6. @samspade,

Thank you for the reassurance. I'm hoping I can say the same things to someone in future as well. In my case, the only thing is my scalp seems to be very thick and hair is having a tough time coming out.. I seem to have a predisposition to scalp pimples and there are a lot of pustules. Its not very clear in the pictures but I get a few daily. I really really hope it won't have any impact on the final growth.

As for propecia, the cost-benefit ratio (not the money) is not good for me considering the potential sides. I have lost 80% of the hair in the area where it would have made a difference. May be 5 years ago it was a good option for me, but not at this point. In any case, i'm not considering messing with my hormones right now. With my luck, it is probably not going to work out very well. We'll see what the future holds.

I feel the same after my HT, not keen on meds at all, whatever their efficacy might be. I've had the HT done and hopefully that'll be good enough, if not then so be it. I'd rather stay bald than take meds and invite the possibility of a host of side-effects.

  7. Few people have anything useful to say about Boseley. As for the other doc I have no idea. I am sorry that you have had five failed transplants, there are too many variables involved to guarantee a successful outcome and we all hope that when we have a HT we have done all we can to control those variables. Choosing a good surgeon is the single most important variable; with sensible expectations, sound after-care and patience it usually works out....at least I hope so else I'll have wasted a lot of amount of money!!

  8. I have an almost constant backache, lower back, not serious but been there for years, I put up with it. However, since my HT 3 weeks ago the backache has gone!

In the past I would slide out of bed in the morning with a stiff back but now I jump right out like some guy with a shotgun is after me! No stiffness, no backache...it's gone!

I have all feeling in my limbs below my back.

Has anyone else had this ?
