Thanks Spanker, as I said before the op I had a shaved head. I have pictures before and after the op, but I am not sure how useful they are considering I have no hair to compare against. Should I add them anyway?

I was in Australia at the time and my Aunt lives in Phuket, so that plus the price made it ideal for me.

So it's been around 6.5 months since I had a hair transplant, here are the details:

Dr Damkerng Pathomvanich

2685 grafts

- 377 one hair grafts

- 1439 two hair grafts

- 548 three hair grafts

- 321 four hair grafts

Total 6339 hairs.

Right now Im not very happy with the results, the density is pretty bad and my hair is vert, very wiry right now. I also realise that the coverage on crown isn't very good, but to be fair I had most of the grafts on the front and went back until we ran out.

I'm not sure what it's like compared to how it was before because I used to shave my hair regularly when it got really thin. But compared to the few times I have let it grow out a little I'm not really seeing any improvements.

At this stage I'm not sure if I should be seeing a lot more density or if I'm just a slow grower. I have no hope for the crown because very little grafts made it there but the front and the mid I really hope thicken up a LOT more, and become much less like wire wool.

Any thoughts are welcome.

N.B. Also, interesting thing, I never had grey hairs on top just at the sides, so now they have been implanted on top too

Not had any shed yet, I seemed to have scabbed up a little more than most of the pic Im seeing here. Not sure if I can add some moisturiser or oils to my head to calm it down, any ideas?

I'll ask Dr Path for the pre/post op pics and I'll add an update in a week or so.

Thanks Nick, like I said I'm happier now looking in the mirror at my lumpy head than my thinning hair. Really interested to see the results, and much happier now my swelling has gone down (felt like I had gone 3 rounds with mike tyson for a few days back).

Would be nice if they grew uninterrupted from the start of course, but that's not how it works in most cases.

I guess thats what I was trying to get to the bottom of. I'm not too concerned about the initial shed, I'm just one of those people who think that is X percent of people are seeing different results from the majority is there a reason for this other than blind luck or genetics.

Saying something like "thats just the way it works" might not actually be true.

Again, I'm not too concerned about the shed, and I do appreciate the comments. Its just my curious mind at work, and if anyone else did not shed it would be interesting to see if they did anything out of the ordinary.

Good to hear nick, right now I'm a swollen scared mess but I actually feel happier like this than with my balding look, can see light at the end of the tunnel (even if it's still a long way to go).

Thanks all, my guess was something like what was said here i.e. some will go, some will stay.

@scar5, nope Dr Path told me that to cover the area on a completely bald patch of hair the size I was looking at with the no of grafts I was looking at then that would be 30% coverage. I later got the answer I asked from the guys at DHT clinic, and Dr Path suggested that I had a fair amount of healthy hair up there already and the no of grafts would make it look fuller inclusive of my native hair. I guess nobody can say what the final % coverage will be but I am confident that it will be an improvement anyway.

Im CURRENTLY not on fin/propecia/dut, tbh I gave up on the routines because I saw no regrowth which was stupid, as really I should have been thinking more about maintaining than regrowing.

I dont know if Ill bother with minox anymore, I just don't think it helped. Correct me if I am wrong! Also, I can't restart the minox for a while now after my transplant, can I?

Regarding Propecia/Fin vs Dut, whats the preference these days? And does anyone know if a prescription is needed in Thailand?

Thanks s2thoudriver, yes I was referring to shedding not graft loss.

So the overwhelming outcome is that the people who dont experience shedding are a bunch of lucky b******s . Not quite what I had hoped for, I guess the only thing I can hold on to is that I was never one of those who expereinced a shed when using minox, so fingeres crossed :-).

I'm told that as few as 5-10% of patients never loose there initial grafts, and get lucky that the implanted grafts simply continue to grow. Not one to believe in luck or simply genetics, I wonder if there was some underlying reason as to why this was the case.

If you were one of the lucky people that did manage to escape the fall out period before regrowth. Is there anything out of the ordinary that you did that you think might have made the difference?

I have just finished my HT with Dr Path, and the whole experience was very positive at present (early days I know). But one question I could not ever seemed to get fully answered has been bugging me.

I opted for having 2,500 grafts (which I think ended up been closer to 2,700 in the end). The question I never go to the bottom of was that Dr Path told me that with the large area to cover this would give me around 30-40% coverage, and I am under the impression that to have a semi full looking harline I need around 50%.

Now the thing is that I actually DO have some hair on the top of my head, mostly peach fuss, but a lot of actual real hair. My hair grows like wild fire, but in the affected areas is very see through and a touch patchy. What I couldn't figure out is would the new transplanted hair compliment what I had to top up that % coverage, or would that existing hair now be lost for good?

In other words if I previously had 30% coverage, and then had the transplant would that knock me up to 60% or did I just basically kill my existing hair to get the same amount of coverage?
