Hi
I'm aged 42 and after taking Finasteride 1mg daily for ~ 13 years, I stopped taking it for good a few months ago. Mainly to see if it would help get rid of my 'brain fog' and improve my mood swings and I can honestly say it has made a huge difference...so coupled with these improvements and taking this alternative medication for hair loss, I won't be going back to Finasteride at all.
However one major "drawback" of stopping Finasteride for good is that my bladder has become weak (I actually noticed this after a few days of stopping Finasteride) and as a result, I require more frequent trips to the loo. I drink a 1-2 litres of water a day and will need to visit the toilet anywhere between 5-10 times day!! I did see my GP and she said this is perfectly normal after coming off Finasteride but could give me some medication to help restore normal function of my bladder. I refused medication and instead will start to do exercises to strengthen my pelvic floor muscles which *should* improve my bladder function.
So my question to those who stopped taking Finasteride after long term use: did you also experience a weak bladder after stopping and did your bladder eventually return to its normal function?
Cheers :)

Saw a GP at my local medical practice yesterday and she basically told me to get lost re: getting Avodart on prescription...NHS or private. Then i asked her to issue me with a repeat prescription for propecia for 6 months (private prescription) and at first she refused. When i pointed out that another GP (same practice) had already prescribed me propecia previously, she backed down and reluctantly wrote out a prescription. Felt like strangling the old hag
Anyway i know someone in Spain and he's agreed to send me a 30 pack of Avodart since Avodart is availble over the country in Spain. Should last me a good 6-7 months (just taking 1 capsule a week)

Hi
Thinking of adding Avodart 0.5mg (Dutasteride) to my Propecia regime, but only 1-2 capsules per week. I believe Avodart is available on NHS prescription in UK for treatment of BPH so potentially free of cost. I'm gonna see my GP next week in Scotland and convince her to prescribe it to me on the NHS (so would get it free ) but in the meantime would love to hear from anyone who's managed to get it on the NHS.
Cheers

So far so good. Gained a bit of growth on my crown but more importantly seems to have stopped the hair loss..i've also been using Regaine foam so pretty sure that's had some effect as well.

Yes i take 1mg daily and that is the recommended dosage as per the instructions which come with Propecia.

Sorry couldn't remember the email address i registered my original username to so had to register again. Anyway for the last few years i've been buying genuine Propecia 1mg from Lloyds online pharmacy in UK @ 107p per tablet, is this still the cheapest in the UK? Just to re-iterate i'm ONLY interested in genuine Propecia and obviously i get it on a private prescription through my gp.
Cheers
Weak bladder after stopping Finasteride permanently

Yes
Are you saying that long term use of Finasteride can actually enlarge a prostrate? I'm pretty sure my prostrate didn't grow after i stopped taking Finasteride because i experienced the weak bladder symptoms within a day or two of stopping finasteride.
