To all the people who had done SMP, especially on the donor area, how many sessions are typically required? I ask this because after consultation with different technicians I get different offers, meaning 2 or 3 sessions. Secondly what is to expect after every session. For someone with a poor donor, a potential strategy is to recreate a hairline using SMP + transplanted hair and maintain a buzzcut. It would make much more sense to do FUE only with a very small punch to minimize donor scarring, whereas I've done FUT and FUE. Anyhow, this is a good example of how that would look.

For someone with very minimal donor, they could opt to have very little or no crown coverage. Ideally, even some sparse crown coverage would add to the realism. I've just had a crown transplant so there's no point in posting my crown on this thread.

I'll be growing out my hair going forward but hopefully this can help someone who's considering this route.

.

Any happy long-term SMP clients??

Are there any people who've had scalp SMP done and are happy with it long-term??

By long-term I mean 5 years or more.

Please post your reviews in this thread

Donor Zone Rescue at Ahead Ink in New Jersey

My 2 FUT procedures going back 15 years left me with one scar that I wanted to camouflage. When I left my hair longer, it was not visible, but if it went a little bit shorter, you could see it. I have now completed for SMP sessions on my FUT scar and there is improvement especially at a skin fade. However, when the hair starts to grow back in, you can see a big separation, which I believe is due to the hair density directly above the scar in comparison to everywhere else. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I remove some of the hair above the scar via FUE or something else. I am sharing pictures of my longer hair before tackling my scar via SMP, after SMP with skin fade and after SMP when the hair begins to grow.

Guys, I’m about to go for an SMP, however, I was wondering if this would stand in the way of a possible hair transplantation (as most probably, I would also have to do a hair transplantation one day).

Does SMP have any relation with the hair fall? Does it affect your hair negatively in any way?

And does it stand in the way of a hair transplantation, for example, would it be more difficult for a doctor to transplant hair on a patient who has done an SMP?

So I’m looking into SMP. Zang and Micro Scalp USA appear to be the top options in LA. Anybody know which is better/can do a more realistic hairline? I see in both clinic’s examples that there are some hairlines that look real and others look like the dots are kind of big (or maybe the clients are choosing density over realism?) so would appreciate any insight into these places. About a month ago I made the decision to go through with a SMP. I had found a reputable clinic and a very skilled and experienced smp-artist and actually went as far as to book an appointment. Days later I saw a video on youtube about SMP and most comments to the video were favorable, but there were also a couple of comments that made me start revaluating my decision. It's funny considering I'd seen a load of videos in my research and never heard of the issue I'm about to mention.

There seem to be some minor issues with having a SMP done, but most of those issues are rather trivial and can be avoided if you have your SMP done by someone experienced. However, there seem to be one issue not so easily disregarded and I'm asking if this issue is legitimate:

The SMP will probably look good the first few years but with time the tiny dots will start to fade, lose their distinction and may resemble a light-grey smudge (dots "dissolving" and migrating togheter to produce blurry clusters). The dots will not fade completely, since it's permanent ink, so the indistinct dots will still linger many, many years after the SMP. When doing a touch-up the old dots may be hard to see and make it a daunting task to correctly apply the new dots over the old ones. This may in the future, after multiple touch-ups, leave a grey smudged, helmet-like, painted look.

It's hard to verify this assumed side-effect since most of the pictures of done works are immediately after a SMP has been finished. Few seem to share their touch-up-journeys. Is it all about the skill of the artist or is this side-effect not so easily avoided?

James is a kind and talented person who has really helped me with my scalp micropigmentation (SMP) process, and I want to share my experience to help others who are dealing with hair loss. I was really struggling with baldness and it made me feel bad at family and work events, and when taking photos. At first, I thought about getting a hair transplant and talked to 'Rahal Hair Transplant,' but they told me I wasn't a good candidate because I didn't have enough donor hair. They recommended SMP instead.
I spent over three months looking online for the best SMP specialist but wasn't happy with the results I saw in photos. Then I came across a forum where Christopher had answered some questions. His clear and confident responses, along with his before and after pictures that weren't edited, made me feel good about him. Also, the fact that he had SMP done on himself convinced me to get a consultation. Christopher was very down-to-earth and positive, and he explained what to expect from the SMP sessions without making any false promises. His studio was large, modern, and clean, which made me choose him for my SMP.
He said I would need three sessions and charged me CAD 2800, which was much less than what others in the GTA were asking for! I had to reschedule two sessions because of personal reasons, and he was very accommodating and didn't charge me extra. My older brother came with me to all the sessions, and we were both impressed by the customer service at 'Enhanced Scalp Micro Pigmentation.' My scalp is dry and tough to work on, but Christopher did a fantastic job. He even suggested a fourth session because of my skin type, at no extra cost, because he's a perfectionist and really cares.
Last week, I went to an office gathering without a cap for the first time, and nobody realized. Two coworkers even said the short haircut looks good on me. This has really boosted my confidence. If you're struggling with hair loss and thinking about SMP, I highly recommend getting a free consultation with Christopher. It was definitely worth it for me, and I hope it helps you too!

Had a very positive consultation for a full head SMP . Asked many questions and I believe I will go ahead with it.

She is very experienced and gave me peace of mind.
she complimented my hairline and I am convinced this will enhance my transplant. I am not buzzing my hair but keeping it long and slicked back.

here is a current pic but…. I did spray the top with root cover up. I’m tired of seeing my scalp so hence the SMP which will give the illusion of more hair.

my crown is just relentless in shedding, even with my oral finasteride. I am hoping next year I can get the crown filled in and wash my hands of all of this and move on.

I had a hair transplant 47 years ago when the technology was still in the stone age. The only method available was removal of "plugs" from the donor area. The results were fine until about 15 years ago when hair loss in the surrounding donor area accelerated. Today, I have a bunch of very noticeable "holes" in the back of my head. It would seem the only way to camouflage the scarred donor area is SMP.

First, is this the only method available to fix this problem? I seriously doubt there is enough hair to do another HT. If SMP is my only answer, will it really cover up the "holes?" It would not seem as simple as hiding a strip area where hair was removed in the newer HT procedures.

Assuming SMP is my only recourse, has anyone had any experiences with the following in the central Florida area. I guess what I'm looking for are recommendations. Thanks for any help you can give me.
