Senior Member Rachmunas4life Posted April 2, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted April 2, 2010 I live in Fort Lauderdale and met with two surgeons in my area. I still decided on going to Dr. Shapiro in the near future. His hairline/temples his work is my personal favorite (as well as Dr. Konior) and Dr. S offers a good travel discount. Senior Member Rachmunas4life Posted April 4, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted April 4, 2010 Oh I wasn't even thinking of that! Hopefully when I said travel discount it didn't mean the other surgeon in Lauderdale. I actually met with Dr. Ron Shapiro on his Miami vacation from Minnesota. I think a short trip to see the best is worth it!
Senior Member Time to do something Posted April 5, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted April 5, 2010 Please go to Dr. Shapiro! This is an extremely important decision you will have to live with for the rest of your life and a short plane ride should not be a deterrent. Senior Member Sparky Posted April 5, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted April 5, 2010 I think very few people live near to a good doctor, only the lucky ones. Mines about 3 hours away by train, not including waiting times, and I consider that fairly close. Bill - Seemiller
the manny, Dr. Shapiro in MN is terrific. However, there are also some excellent physicians in your home state you may also want to consult with and consider. Senior Member Blake Bloxham Posted April 6, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted April 6, 2010 I agree with Bill. There are some excellent docs in Florida, and it may be worth consulting with them as well. Good luck, and let us know what you decide. Looks like you went to Dr Epstein 2x, but recommended Dr Shappiro. Were you displeased with Epstein or could you give any details? I do am in the in Boca/Ft Lauderdale area and Dr Epstein has locations in Miami and Boca I believe. So there is that conveinence but havent heard much about him. They have a million sample photos on their website which is somewhat nice but doesnt mean much. Thanks
Senior Member Time to do something Posted April 6, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted April 6, 2010 I'm at work and cannot reply with details why I was not happy with Dr. Epstein's work but if you search my posts you will find plenty of information why it was not a good experience for me. Regular Member fritz68 Posted April 6, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted April 6, 2010 This is a bit worrying. I had some hairline and crown work with Dr. Epstein in January. I hadn't seen this board before I booked (and chose him as he was close and seemed proficient). But going through the posts it seems like he's been in a fair bit of controversy. Too early to tell yet on success of procedure, can only hope I have more 'luck' than you did Time to do something. Hope your Dr. Shapiro procedure delivers. Senior Member Time to do something Posted April 6, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted April 6, 2010 To my knowledge Dr. Epstein is not a coalition doctor on this site. Regular Member fritz68 Posted April 6, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted April 6, 2010 That's correct. But I've no idea why he was asked to leave or whether he left of his own accord.

Bill - Seemiller
fritz, Dr. Epstein is no longer recommended by our community. You can read about it by clicking here. Best wishes, Bill
Regular Member fritz68 Posted April 7, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted April 7, 2010 Thanks a lot for that Bill. Seems like he didn't like the fact that a unhappy patients could post negative views on the internet. I sincerely hope he's technically competent and I don't end up going for a revision. Senior Member PanamaJimmy Posted April 9, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted April 9, 2010 Manny, I live in Ft Lauderdale and had a great experience with Dr. Glenn Charles in Boca Raton. I highly recommend this doctor and suggest a visit to his clinic. Panama Jimmy My Hair Loss Website - Hair Transplant with Dr. Charles
Senior Member Rachmunas4life Posted April 9, 2010 Senior Member Share Posted April 9, 2010 I personally met with Dr. Charles and Dr. Epstein. I really felt more comfortable with Dr. Charles, who also gave me his personal number. Dr. Charles introduced me to a patient in the operating room where I saw the incision sites already made (no blood and very clean work), had a nice conversation with the patient (who came from over seas I believe) and got to see the grafts up close. It was very cool! Dr. Epstein however met with me for 5 minutes, then his patient coordinator Aaron tried to talk me into booking right then and there with a really powerful salesman pitch. Plus Aaron's transplant looked sparse and like something on a Bosley commercial I was thinking when he was talking to me.
Regular Member FLORIDA ENGINEER Posted April 12, 2010 Regular Member Share Posted April 12, 2010 I also used Dr. Glenn Charles in Boca Raton and I am very pleased with his work. Bill - Seemiller
runman, Not everyone has the donor density and scalp elasticity for a 4000 plus megasession. Florida Engineer has extensive hair loss and Dr. Charles was able to harvest almost 3000 grafts. I'd say his results are right on par for what can realistically be achieved with that number. Besides, 3000 grafts is still considered a "megasession" by today's standards. The good news is, Florida Engineer can always go back for another procedure to add density in the front and/or target the back. Whether or not Hasson and Wong would have been able to get more on him, we'll never know. However, I think Dr. Charles did a great job on Florida Engineer and a second procedure would refine it even further. Best wishes, Bill
