scar stretch

Recommended Posts

I'm starting to become a little worried about my scar as I am close to 10 months post op.

First, some history of how I got to this point.

I had my first surgery with the Bosley folks back in 2002 of approx. 500 graphs. The results were less than spectacular.

Fortunately I found this forum with a wealth of information and support.

In 2006 I had another surgery with a very reputable doctor recommended on this forum of approx. 2400 graphs. Everything went well except for a spot that was about 1.5 inches square in the front of my scalp just behind the hairline where either there weren't enough graphs placed or they did not take but it looked very sparse.

I spoke with the clinic and they agreed that it wasn't as good as it should have been so they were kind enough to fill the spot in with 500 or so more graphs (very cool of them).

There was also a small spot where the scar had stretched a bit and the doctor said he could fix it.

So, they did a scar revision which yielded about 700 graphs and placed that into the "gap".

As should be expected there was some pain and tenderness, especially on the left side as well as shock loss mostly to the left side.

After a couple of months I noticed the scar on the left side (just above the ear) appeared very wide (1 cm).

I spoke with the clinic and they had said to wait a while and see how things progress.

If after a year things do not improve they can do either a scar revision or FUE into the scar.

I'm a little worried because if they did a scar revision this last time and this was the result why would I attempt to go for it again with possibly the same or worse results. My donor area is also thinner than before and the shock loss to the left side has improved a little but not close to where I was before.

I used to like to wear my hair a little shorter on the sides but now that is not possible as the scar can easily be seen. And when I say shorter I'm talking about buzzed with a 4 guard.

The rest of the scar is approx. 4-5mm.

I believe patients should inquire prior to surgery about how close to the ear the strip will be for a few reasons:

First, many people like to have their hair a bit shorter on the sides above their ears. Second, the caliber of the hair above the ears is a little thinner making it more difficult to conceal the scar and third a scar stretch is more likely to occur where there is any tension which is more likely on the ends.

The clinic has been very professional and supportive this whole time I'm just wondering what my options are if any?

Trying to remain "optimistic"...

Thanks for the response Please Grow.

Yes, I do have some laxity where the scar is worse but I am a little hesitant of a revision. fue may be the way to go.

This type of thing is not an exact science, some of us heal better and some worse . Fortunately, the doctor and the clinic have been great and stand behind their work.
