topfloor
I had my first hair transplant with Dr. Lindsey 2 weeks ago. I had done quite a lot of research before I decided on Dr. Lindsey and I can say now that I made the right decision. We had decided on 1800 grafts during our discussions over the phone/online but I ended up getting 2128 grafts .Some of the grafts beyond the 1800 that we had discussed were actually free!( you can get the correct numbers from Dr. Lindsey if you want) The entire procedure on the day was mostly painless apart from a few needle pricks which were very tolerable. I didn't feel anything as the donor area was being cut or when the grafts were being planted The girls who worked in the clinic are really fun to talk to I actually ended up talking to them for the entire time they worked on my head! After the procedure was over, my head swelled up quite a bit over the next 3-4 days and the donor area was a little painful but it was all very tolerable. I was off painkillers by day 5 and the swelling was gone too. I actually ended up partying through the new year without any discomfort. Since I have pretty good amount of hair at the back of my head the scar in the donor area is not visible and i do not feel any pain in the donor area too I think the best thing about Dr. Lindsey is that he is very honest about the results and sets realistic expectations. He has a great team of people working with him and I think I made the best decision go with him. Regular Member Dr. William Lindsey Posted January 8, 2009 Regular Member Share Posted January 8, 2009 You are correct PGP. But not everyone on this forum knows that. I get questioned about that 2 times a week from patients who came to my office from this site. And a practice a short distance away does not offer that practice at all, as was brought to my attention between the time I first saw your post, and now. But you are absolutely correct that most good clinics offer that. Dr. Lindsey McLean VA William H. I've been on this board a year, and I've read many instances where patients were charged some fee for any 'extras'. I was tickled to get a 100 or so extra too, but it's still worth reporting, imo. Senior Member PLEASE GROW PLEASE Posted January 9, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted January 9, 2009 Yeah your right and your reply to him was OUTSTANDING. You could of added something inspiring to make up for my blunder It just bugged me a little that this guy didnt get ALL his for free like the doctor just posted about on another guy in another thread. Then Dr L even says in this thread that all good clinics offer this yet this guy paid for some/most of them. Does he consider his clinic a good one if he doesnt offer this? Hey I never look down on a clinic if they charge for the extras Just dont openly play the role of Santa then get stuck in the chimney at every other houses. http://hair-restoration-info.c...521087683/m/49610487 Anyway Topfloor Im glad your here and the pictures Dr Lindsey took look real nice . Forgive me for my insensitivity . This was not meant to be a negative toward you. Youll be a very happy man in 6-12 months
Bill - Seemiller
Topfloor, Congratuations on your hair transplant with Dr. Lindsey. I hope you will go the distance and document your progress with us for a year so we can see the final outcome. We're excited for you, but I bet nobody is excited as you getting that new head of hair . Please Grow Please, I disagree that there is any correlation between a top clinic and free grafts. Don't get me wrong. It's terrific when a clinic provides the extras for free. But even in my experience with Dr. Hasson, I was charged for every graft. I didn't mind though because it was all discussed beforehand and I told him to go for the largest number possible. In my opinion, it's more important that there are no surprises than it is to get free grafts. This comes from the clinic properly communicating everything to the patient, not just on a form the patient signs, but taking the time to go over everything. I had this experience at all 3 of the clinics I had surgery with, and I was very thankful. Best wishes, Bill
Senior Member PLEASE GROW PLEASE Posted January 9, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted January 9, 2009 I didn't mind though because it was all discussed beforehand and I told him to go for the largest number possible. Well you also disagree with Dr Lindsey then Yes if it was discussed PRIOR then no big deal . I just think its a little shady if a doctor says you need 3500 and he gets 3650 that you should be charged for the extra. It wouldnt keep me from a great clinic though. I also have a strong suspicion certain clinics lie about graft count and others split extra grafts to acheive those counts.
topfloor
Thanks guys for all your comments and encouragement! Let me clarify the "free graft" issue one more time so that we can put a lid on it During my consultation with Dr. Lindsey over the phone we hadn't pinned down the number of grafts that I would need . He told me it would be around 1800-2000 and it would be my decision what I wanted to do. In the end I actually paid for less than 2000 grafts which means I still got more than 200 free grafts which I think is a reasonably good deal! I cannot comment on what other clinics do but I know that if I need another transplant I would definitely go to Dr. Lindsey again. I will try to post regularly here so that I can get some feedback from all you guys. Cheers
