Senior Member latinlotus Posted December 8, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted December 8, 2008 I just had HT two weeks ago, I still feel a slight tightness at the donor region when i am bending my head to the front. Thus, in order to avoid scar stretching when doing exercise, am i correct in using this rule of thumb: when doing a certain exercise if i feel the donor tightening, then it is an indication that exercise should be avoid? Thanks. ******** I am not a doctor. The opinions and comments are of my own. Senior Member Eman Posted December 8, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted December 8, 2008 ll- you are correct in avoiding exercises that put any pressure on the donor scar. That includes things like crunches, squats, and sometimes bench. I waited until the 6.5 week mark to begin working out and it was tough not being able to do physical activity. I took a real conservative approach and eased back into it, which I am still doing today at two months. Here is a post I started regarding working out: http://hair-restoration-info.c...631024004#3631024004 My initial HT thread: done and done!! Check it out... Senior Member wantego Posted December 8, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted December 8, 2008 I may be way over cautious but I always say forget the lifting for a long time. People invest so much money, time and emotions in these HTs so why take any chance? I have seen some guys post how much they regret working out after their Ht's because they feel this hurt their scars. 4374 grafts-7/2/2008-Dr Rahal 485 singles 2336 doubles 1526 triples 16 quads 9809 total hairs
Senior Member hairthere Posted December 8, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted December 8, 2008 The only exercise i did after the first month was light jogging. by the second month i was back into my regular routine except instead of using freeweights i used the machines and did lots of cable work. Bill - Seemiller
Latinlotus, I agree with the others. You should be fine to start exercising, but use common sense. If you feel any strain in the donor area, stop doing the exercise. In my opinion, avoid any exercises where you have to put your chin to your chest or put your hands behind your head since there is a tendency to pull. Start light weights and gradually build. Senior Member mmhce Posted December 9, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted December 9, 2008 I think doctor recommended 30-45 min walk per day (as a minimum amount of exercise) should suffice, until you feel up to doing some more aggressive exercising. take care... Senior Member imissthebarber Posted December 9, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted December 9, 2008 What about other sports like soccer or snowboarding where there is not the constant pressure like with weights but there could be sudden movements or collisions? Senior Member latinlotus Posted December 9, 2008 Author Senior Member Share Posted December 9, 2008 thanks all for great advice. Since i am going to the beach for new year, just need to look good imissthebarber we hair transplant guys are metrosexual, we just do exercises that make us look good and that is only weight training. We don't care about cardio or sport That being said, my understanding about weight training is so dangerous for scar stretching is because we put lots of strain on the skin and the muscles with repetitive movements. Sport like soccer and snowboarding or any sports that require you to look down, thus having neck flexion should also be avoid during the first month. So i guess the during the first month cardio like jogging would be the most appropriate. ******** I am not a doctor. The opinions and comments are of my own.
