Hey, I come back after 2 years of my HT with something new: beard transplant. But not usual head to beard, but beard to beard. My goal is to save my donor area which will be used for second HT. At the same time I shave 1/3 of my beard, so the idea was to use these grafts to increase density on my cheeks.

I was thinking about 3 clinics: HTS (dr. Devroye), Eugenix (dr. Bansal) and dr. Mwamba. Each of them with proved transplant beard to beard in the past with good results. Mwamba didn’t respond to my request, so the choice was between HTS and Eugenix. In the end I decided to go with dr. Devroye after checking some relations with wonderful results. Consultation resolved my doubts regarding scars, but I was quite surprised with the proposed quantity of grafts (over 1000 while Eugenix proposed 700). In the end I wanted to fit in around 800: I think I don’t have that much donor and I don’t want to decrease my density above my shaving line.

Planned date: 21.11.

Below some of my pictures:

- After a few weeks of no shaving (visible donor which I don’t need)

- After barber

- Without beard a few years ago

My idea is to make my cheeks line sharper based on my current one (barber always cuts it a few millimeters below as it is not dense enough above that), increase density and fill some blank spaces + maybe remove single grafts above my shaving line on cheeks. Day before transplant I’ve got another consultation, so I’ll discuss it with doctor. I also plan to visit my barber before transplant to discuss the shape that would be the best for me.

My relation will be uploaded in regular intervals so you can track my progress.

3 days to treatment, so I can't wait. Some new pictures after discussion with barber - this is the contour I'd like to keep. Also some pictures before with visible single hairs that I'd like to remove and transplant lower, but only if there will be no scars, which I plan to discuss with doctor.

The procedure is over, so it's time for a report.

In the end, we agreed to do the consultation and the procedure on one day.

7:30 - I arrived at the clinic. I received clothing to change and stuff gave me keys to my room as well. The doctor was still in the middle of surgery on the other patient (they started the day before, but they divided the whole procedure into 2 days), so I made myself comfortable in the room, waiting for them to come for me. I also chatted a bit with the assistants - very nice girls, it turned out that some of them also speak Polish, so it was a nice touch for me. I chose the food for lunch.

Consultation: we agreed on the transplant zone (just below my shaving line), the area to be covered (no sideburns) and the number of grafts. The doctor suggested 1,000, but I decided that I would like to stay with 800 (it's possible that someday some of these grafts will be used for hair transplantation). We also discussed the contour itself - at first I wanted to go with something sharper and more symmetrical, but the doctor advised against it because it just looks artificial and he has corrected these types of Turkish lines more than once, and suggested a thickening according to my natural line with minor corrections, to which I agreed. I also asked him to try to avoid taking gray hair from the donor if possible, but that was only as an extra for me - after all, the hair that is supposed to turn gray will soon turn gray anyway (looking at my donor, I can see that he succeeded as much as possible, because I was left with single gray hairs in the donor).

9:30 - start of the first stage. Anaesthesia and graft extraction. Before that we discussed for a moment the matter of scars. A couple of people wrote to me whether I was afraid of them, so we chatted about it with the doctor. He reassured me that the skin on neck regenerates perfectly, so I have nothing to worry about. I asked if it was possible to remove individual grafts above my shaving line without scars as well - he confirmed, and we exchanged a few words about his puncher for FUE (the doctor has his own system, which he sells to other clinics). The grafts were taken by the doctor, then an assistant showed up and they worked together: the doctor used the puncher, the assistant took out the grafts. I was impressed by the doctor's efficiency. The extraction itself felt less invasive than during my hair transplant 2 years ago. By the way - I didn't know that there are also 2-hair grafts on the beard.

11:35 - end of graft extraction and moving on to the second stage: opening of the channels. All cuts were made by the doctor. In addition, he took a few grafts above the shaving line, which I mentioned.

12:20 - end of cutting and break. My body reacted quite extremely to this stage, I must have been stressed a lot, because my hands were shaking and my head was spinning. The assistants noticed this, immediately brought me something sweet and told me to take a longer break and rest. Food came, I ate with difficulty - the anaesthesia on my neck and cheeks paralyzed my jaw, eating was a nightmare, I recommend eating at least before the cuts.

13:20 - start of the last stage: graft implantation. Two assistants at once conducted the procedure, one on one cheek, the other on the other. Very efficient. Toward the end, additional cuts had to be made, so the doctor came in to make them.

15:15 - the end of the procedure. One of the assistants took me to a room, explained the instructions, handed over a water spray to be used on transplant area every 10-15 minutes for the next few hours, and pain killers.

I spent the entire evening relaxing and watching TV series. After the anaesthesia wore off, there was a slight pain, but it was mild enough that there was no need to take even paracetamol.

The next day: a quick meeting with the doctor, a brief inspection and the taking of “after” photos, payment and return home.

Overall impressions: I felt really taken care of, the staff is great and cares a lot about the patient. I am in heavy shock about the regenerative abilities of the neck. Donor already looked fine the same day in the evening. Today (3 days after the procedure) it looks almost healed.

As for the effect itself - I will evaluate once the beard has grown up. It looks very professionally and naturally done, although now I am a little concerned by the shape near the mustache on my right side, but if the effect looks natural after healing - I will be very happy.

I will upload photos regularly.

I completely agree with the Dr on this. I've seen hard straight lines done on beard transplants and it usually doesn't look right. I think the best idea for you was to just fill in the thin areas.

It looks like the extraction area is healing already at just 3 days post op. That was a good move to only take hair from where you shave it down anyway. Please update us as it starts growing in.

Hi everyone! Update after 1 week.

Everything is healing just great, both donor end transplant area. The only places I'm concerned about are a few grafts that were taken from my cheeks above shaving line - they are clearly healing much slower, but let's just give it some time. I also returned to my face cleaning routine, so now I see more crust falling.

Below some pictures.

It’s looking pretty good. It’s only a week, so don’t expect miracles. You may get a few pimples or ingrown hairs in the extraction sites now and for the next few weeks. Then the same thing later in the recipient site.
