Regular Member Recession1 Posted July 12 Regular Member Share Posted July 12 I’m always confused when people on here say to get on oral minoxidil and fin to strengthen thinning donor hair before surgery. If somebody shows the propensity to thin in the donor region you aren’t going to stop it forever with medication… that’s like saying oral minoxidil and finasteride is the cure for the top (recipient hair). It may halt things but it won’t stop thinning. So with that being said once you have surgery and you previously had a weak donor prior to medication you are eventually going to lose the benefits thus putting you in a worse situation prior to surgery. You will now have patchy thin areas in recipient areas and won’t have the option to buzz your head since you will have fue or fut scars. What’s everybody’s thoughts on this? Valued Contributor A_4_Archan Posted July 14 Valued Contributor Share Posted July 14 (edited) Yes, this is common sense that every patient should understand before undergoing surgery. That's why Taking the time to educate yourself by staying active on forums is very helpful. Unfortunately, some people make hasty decisions and later regret them. Doctors also have a responsibility to inform patients of the potential consequences. It's crucial for doctors to explain the pros and cons of surgery to their patients. I know a few very ethical doctors who do this, even rejecting patients who aren't good candidates. Recently, I spoke with someone in a similar situation. While many doctors were willing to perform the hair transplant, a few ethical doctors turned him down due to the same concerns you've raised. I warned him about the consequences as well.
