Senior Member FinallyHT Posted July 11 Senior Member Share Posted July 11 Did you hair grafts grow at a different pace? As in did you first hair transplant grow in slower or faster vs the second time? Or was it the roughly the same for you? Age: 40 Hairloss began at age 23. Oral Finasteride 1mg daily since 2006, Topical Minoxidil since 2012. Hair transplant 3,400 grafts 2019. Second hair transplant 2,400 grafts in 2023. Senior Member gillenator Posted July 11 Senior Member Share Posted July 11 I have undergone 4 separate HT procedures and the first one grew in the fastest and the last one the slowest for sure. That’s a good question…because it’s virtually impossible to measure each individual hair growth…it just took longer for me to notice the difference in terms of volume on the last procedure of approximately 2400 grafts…yet I had received 5500 grafts previously in 3 prior procedures…so I realize that the more hair volume there is, the more difficult it is to visually notice the addition of more grafts as compared to starting with very little hair in the recipient area. 1 Gillenator Independent Patient Advocate I am not a physician and not employed by any doctor/clinic. Administrators Melvin- Admin Posted July 13 Administrators Share Posted July 13 I feel like my 4th HT was the slowest. I didn’t start seeing meaningful growth until 5/6 months. My second HT looked remarkable by 6 months. Quote I was just an inch away from booking a a hairmill based on google reviews before i stumbled upon this goldmine of a forum. This has been my experience as well, granted first was hairline/mid, 2nd was crown and a small technically 3rd a month later on temples. However…. even the temples have come in much slower than my hairline did. Not sure if that’s a 2nd procedure effect or due to being temples. I’ve actually never seen anything written re how growth rate of temples compare to other regions. Edited July 13 by LeonBlack
Senior Member gillenator Posted July 14 Senior Member Share Posted July 14 I think the slower growth was attributable to grafting primarily in the same recipient zone and obviously the blood supply was compromised. On all 4 of my procedures the grafts were implanted in my frontal third although approximately 700 grafts were done in the posterior zone, mostly at the top of the crown so that I brush/comb that hair as a front-to- back combover the crown…eventually I grew the length at approximately 6 inches everywhere on the top however it seemed like it took much longer for the crown to grow to 6 inches. Valued Contributor Gatsby Posted July 15 Valued Contributor Share Posted July 15 My first two hair transplants were punch graft procedures. 'Unfortunately' these grew incredibly well! I then had a series of about six 'strip like' surgeries with a plastic surgeon to have the plugs removed leaving a red hairline scar right across the top of my forehead. The next hair transplant was in 2022 and using scalp, beard and chest hair it grew surprisingly well. The third hair transplant was a year later in 2023 and it also grew well. My fourth and final hair transplant was a much smaller procedure five months ago of 800 scalp grafts and 400 beard grafts in the crown. To be honest this one is much slower growing but I can 'feel' more coverage in the crown if that makes sense. I'm getting a hair cut tomorrow and will upload pictures of my results to date.
