Hairline Restoration Recommendations

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I’ve been looking through these forums for a few weeks, as I’ve been weighing up the possibility of getting surgery for my hair. The forum was recommended to me by my uncle who got a full hair transplant with a fantastic result around three years ago.

I have been insecure about my hairline for a while and it’s only getting worse - sadly gone are the days where I can cover it up with a good haircut. So whilst I’m sure my case is by far not the most severe, it’s still something that I want to do for me.

I have a few questions if anybody would be kind enough to provide me with some advice…

1) I was hoping to just get a hairline restoration rather than a full hair transplant, ideally without the need for my entire head to be shaved. I appreciate that I am thinning on top but I am not insecure about that, it’s just the hairline at the front that really bothers me. As such, are there any surgeons that are highly recommended for hairline restorations? That being said, if from looking at the pictures below you think I’d be better off going the whole way due to the thinning on top, then please do suggest so!

2) I’ve seen in quite a few posts that people’s hair is described with a code. I can’t seem to find what these codes mean, but I’d like to educate myself and be told what my situation is!

Pictures below. I’m a 30 year old male and definitely leaning towards Turkey for my surgery.

Wet hair (and brushed back to highlight my concern):

How I style my hair usually (albeit I’ve had a haircut between these sets of photos so the sides are much shorter!):

Many thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum

Firstly are you on any form of medication? You need to ensure your hair loss is stable first before any surgery. Long term planning is key .

I know you said you aren’t insecure about the mid scalp but if you tackle the front without meds the losses behind will quickly make it look unnatural. You’ve got a lot of hair to protect still if you act quickly.

By code I’m guessing you mean the Norwood scale? Its freely available only if you goggle it 👍🏻

Thanks for the response! I’m not on any medication. Apologies, I’m very much a novice when it comes to this, what would you recommend and how would I go about getting onto it?

That is indeed what I meant, thank you for that.

Finasteride is always the first go to, it should stop or at least significantly slow further recession. Minoxidil is then used to try and regrow some of your losses. Speak to your Dr for more information I’m sure they’ll be happy to help.

Given you said over the last 3 years you’ve noticed obvious recession it’s possible that will continue , so meds are important if you are considering a transplant. I’d give it at least 6 months after starting medication before looking towards surgery. So you know the impact the meds are having  and that you can tolerate them.

Research is crucial. The area is a minefield, there’s so many shady characters and false advertising to be wary of online. Luckily forums like this provide vital independent results in real time. They are your lifeline.

Just to add to @ScottishGuy21, note that Finasteride and Minoxidil meds are available in topical as well as oral form. There are pros/cons to both, so read up on it and discuss with doctor.

You need to visit a HT doctor and get a proper prescription for Finasteride and Minoxidil

Stay on medications for few months and then evaluate your results.

It's always recommended to take medications for at least six months before undergoing Hair Transplants.
