what are the possible benefits of forceps compared implanter pens when it comes to graft placing?

like i know that it doesnt really matter for the result and that the skill of the person using it eventually matters the most

 

however just trying to understand the thought process of why someone would choose an implanter pen while some other is preferring the forceps

Great question, @mr_peanutbutter.  I am certainly not the one to answer... but I look forward to hearing from others.

There are no benefits.  Implanter pen is always better.

That said, if your clinic has been using forceps for 10 years, they know how to use forceps, and they'll do a good job with forceps.  Lots of places are of the "if it isn't broken, don't change it" mentality.

But implanter pens are the newer, better technology.

I'd never personally choose a clinic based on whether they use forceps or implanters though.  It's a very minor issue.  Shouldn't be a dealbreaker.

so i talked to a local surgeon and he said basically the following

 

- learning to properly implant with forceps takes way more time then using an implanter. and there is more room for error.

 

- forceps have the benefit that you have better view on the graft when you implant it, giving the surgeon more controll maybe

 

- some pens maybe bent the graft in a way. not sure if i properly understood him in that regard though.

 

i wont go him with because he offers all kind of plastic surgery so take it with a grain of salt but it sound plausible
