NY: Dr. Dorin vs. Dr. Wesley for a dense hairline

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

40yo M here looking to have my first FUE transplant done. Its just my hairline and I think I need about 2000 grafts.

Ive narrowed my choices down to Dr. Wesley and Dr. Dorin.

Wesley has a 10 month wait just for a consult. Then another 2-3 months for the actual procedure. Dorin can see me next week and perform the procedure a month from now.

Does anyone know how much Dorin and Wesley charge per graft? Ive read very old posts that say around $10 for both of them. Any info appreciated on that. FYI this won't be the deciding factor, I'm joust curious.

And most important, what do you guys think I should do? Should I wait for Wesley? Or just get it done by Dorin now? I've read that Wesley is able to do hairlines better and more dense than Dorin. Is this true? I want a low and dense hairline because I like to keep a buzz cut. Any info is appreciated.

Obviously I am endorsed by Dr. Bob Dorin however am not an employee so I do not get involved in quoting pricing or availability of his schedule, etc.

But I will say 2 very important things about Dr. Dorin and that is I admire his outstanding skill and talent with FUE and secondly, his honesty and impeccable ethics.

Yet my suggestion is to meet with both of them and evaluate which surgeon you feel is best for you…honestly, both are top and you can’t go wrong with either one.

Best wishes to you fan51 in your journey!

Thanks for the reply. What’s your take on Dorin hairlines? I’m reading his hairlines aren’t as densely packed as other doctors. Is this true? And if it is true, why? Is there a reason he won’t densely pack a hairline?

Clearly Dr. Dorin recognizes the importance of each individual’s hairline attributes and  density is just one of the factors considered in restoring/building each individual hairline…not every patient has the goal of attaining a dense packed hairline…rather, they want the hairline they once had and desire a restoration that fits them and that’s aesthetically pleasing to them.

Now, having said this, it’s not to say that Dr. Dorin would not increase the density per cm2 to achieve a higher level of density “if that is clearly what you want”…he will explain the pros and cons of either approach, he will asses your donor density and provide you a realistic plan, he will explain the differences between “visual density” and “actual density” again as measured by the actual hair count per cm2.

Most US Drs are on the conservative side and don't generally dense pack hairlines as much as some Drs in other countries do. They tend to take a more long term approach and assume you will lose more hair, so they save donor for later.  With that said I like the shape and naturalness of Dr Dorin's hairlines.  He draws a unique wavy line on the patient which looks like it will turn out to be a mess, but it actually turns out very well. Instead of having small irregularities he creates larger irregularities.

I have to point out that I am a patient of Dr Dorin, so my opinion may be biased. As @gillenator said, you should research both Drs.

As another Dr. Dorin patient, I LOVE the Dorin hairline.
