Dr. William Lindsey
This fellow contacted me several months ago and we had a number of online and phone discussions. We originally planned around 2200 grafts to address a "U" shape preserving his slowly thinning frontal tuft. But when he flew into town last Thursday, he admitted that he could not afford to have any significant shaving of a recipient area done as he had to be back in the mid-east next week. So we agreed on around 1500 grafts placed in his frontal triangles and that he'd likely need additional work done at some point in the future. Although we had discussed scar issues pre-arrival, he and his wife flew out of DC at 5pm on the day of surgery, and he plans to have his sutures removed on day 7 at his home in the mid-west, USA. A 2 layer trichophytic closure was done, and I have asked him to use vitamin E and mederma on his scar post suture removal AND to email me pics at 3 weeks and 2 months to see if he needs any adjuvant steroid therapy. As always I prefer to deal with my own sutures, but in some cases it just doesn't work out for the patient to be around our office on day 7. BUT I am very clear that I want to be involved in looking at the scar line as it matures. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure... We got 1750 grafts from his strip, roughly half were doubles, and placement was quick and easy, with us done by 2 counting a lunch break. His wife shopped at the nearby mall and was back to pick him up for a trip to the airport with time to spare. Hopefully, he'll send me updates that I can post, and visit next summer.
