Senior Member Approach Posted June 9 Senior Member Share Posted June 9 (edited) Let's assume you are looking to do a HT but you are Not looking for full coverage. Although your crown area will improve, it will still show thinning after the HT, and you are ok with that (age appropriate). (I'm aware of hair greed though.) My question is: Would you be willing to "Significantly" overharvest your donor region-- to avoid using beard hair? I'm asking b/c although I'm ok with beard hair-- I prefer all scalp hair due to its naturalness- even at the expense of a thinning crown. (Moeover, If I want a full head of hair, I would need to do a 50/50 ratio of scalp to beard hair. That's a pretty high ratio to get a natural look outcome. Although, if anyone can do it, Dr. Pittella is very good at it. Attached is a very Rough picture of what I mean using all scalp hair. Dr. Pittella said he can remove around 5,000 grafts from donor.) Then, one year later-- In order to improve the overharvested donor area, I would add some beard hair & and possibly SMP. (I know it's not easy to fix an overharvested donor area; but pls assume it is for this discussion. ) I'm just wondering what your "opinion" is about significantly overharvesting. Thanks! PS) I am open to using a small amount of beard hair. UPDATE: AS I REVIEW MY POST SOME MORE, I REALIZE HAIR GREED COULD EASILY BECOME AN ISSUE. TWO YEARS LATER, I MAY BE WISHING I COVERED MY WHOLE HEAD WITH HAIR. AND, AT THAT POINT-- IT WILL BE A MORE COMPLEX PROCEDURE. I NOW BELIEVE I SHOULD GO WITH THE PLAN DR. PITTELLA RECOMMENDED DURING CONSULTATION. GO FOR THE WHOLE HEAD AND INCLUDE LOTS OF BEARD HAIR. HE'S GREAT WITH BEARD HAIR ANYWAY. 👌 Edited June 9 by Approach
Regular Member laverita Posted June 10 Regular Member Share Posted June 10 Not sure of your age or donor condition but best not to over harvest as you also don't know if your sides will drop or if you will thin naturally. It is a lot of money to over harvest and then fill with beard etc. Just go for beard and scalp as best as you can. Grey hair also will help you in the skin to hair contrast and beard should blend fairly well. Just don't use it in the hair line etc. If in doubt do a test and see how it looks.
