25 yo (Norwood 5-6). I want to do a hair transplant from Dr. Felipe Pittella

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. Now I am 25 yo, I started losing my hair aggressively from the age of 18. Over the years, I have tried various hair restoration methods, including minoxidil and finasteride. I think my baldness will no longer progress because my pattern of baldness was formed in the early years of hair loss. Since then, it has not increased, the hair has aggressively thinned and fell out only in a certain area. Or maybe I'm wrong and baldness can go even further?

Since my baldness zone is large, I have no right to make mistakes, and I want to have an operation with a good doctor, I am considering Dr. Pitella, since I have seen many good results from him. I probably don't have a very good donor zone, I don't have thick dark hair.

Should I consider a hair transplant if I can't take finasteride? I would be happy to have a conservative front line (like norwood 2) and acceptable density in other areas. I admit that the crown will still be rather thin. But I'll be fine. I need a cosmetically acceptable effect.

Below is a photo of my head now, I don't use any remedies for treatment (4 months ago, I stopped taking minoxidil because it stopped acting on me).
Do I have a chance? I need your help. Is it possible to achieve an acceptable result with my donor zone?

I think my baldness will no longer progress because my pattern of baldness was formed inthe early years of hair loss.“

thats a bolt statement

you can still easily lose your lateral humps later in life, nobody will be able to tell. your family history could give some hints though. how high are the sides of your grandpas, uncles and dad?

i just can tell you that many slow balders have intact sides that drop in very late age

however what is certain and without risk in life?

I'm probably the first in the family with baldness. My father doesn't have baldness, and neither do my grandfathers

Yes, you should select a surgeon who'll be able to use your beard perfectly.

Dr. Pittella would be an excellent choice

Best wishes👍

@John25

Thanks for the answer! Do you think the donor area of my head is not enough for an acceptable result?

I think without beard an acceptable result might be possible only with Dr. Zarev

With the help of beard hair a surgeon will be able to blend it perfectly.

You are only 25 years old. You can, and most likely will, lose a lot more hair over the years. You started losing hair at 18 and 7 years later you are just about a NW 6. You have 35 more years until you hit 60 years old. Don't expect it to suddenly stop getting worse just because you go for a hair transplant or just because you lost a lot already. It looks like you are thinning far down the back, so your crown could widen a lot.

@John25 I also began balding at 18. However by age 25 I was probably a Norwood 3 and it continued until I was a full blown Norwood 7. . Going by the pics you have provided you have to realize that unfortunately MPB is progressive over the life span. You also have some retrograde alopecia. The coronet below the crown is already showing signs of thinning. Surgery now would be only end in a one way regret that you never had it in the first place. I would look at getting advice on perhaps topical finasteride and see if you can tolerate this and perhaps oral minoxidil (I'm not a doctor) and see if you can stabilize your loss. If you were 50 with your current hair loss it would be a different story. In a nut shell at 25 you are trying to hit a moving target.

I'm in similar position as you. If I were you I would go for it but talk to doctor good at planning like Muresanu on what he thinks and be conservative. Keep grafts in the bank for later. Doing just the front and keeping crown open is a good option.

Do everything else to reduce chances of progression: healthy lifestyle, oral min, LLLT, saw palmetto etc.

How does the most bald person in your family look like?

Are you on medication? Your hair loss is severe given your age. You’re likely to progress to Norwood 6/7.
