Multiple Procedures - Multiple Doctors

I see many people have Multiple Procedures - Multiple Doctors, and I wonder if this is because of cost, doctor dissatisfaction or other reasons. I had a phone consultation with pictures, and a figure of 1500 grafts was mentioned. Do you find that the initial estimate is usually too low, or do you just decide at a later date that you want more? I realize photos are not the same as the doctor looking at your head.

I'm sure there is many reasons people change surgeons, it would be good to hear some of them.

I was quoted 2500 grafts from photo's and recieved just over 2300, not sure if the quotes always come that close.

Edit:

People generally return for other procedures to thicken the first, treat another balding area or they have receded further. (plus many other reasons)

A quote is simply that, if you turned up and you required 2000 - I would assume you would be advised to get the 2000. (some doctors even give you the grafts free if you go over by a couple hundred)

Maxxy is right. You will need multiple surgeries for the rest of your life in order to maintain the illusion of density....or at least until geriatric/life threatening diseases begin to take precedence.

take care...

Dazed most people have surgeries at least 2 years apart, which in HT is a long time for advancements in technology, some doctors do not improve there methods while some keep up to date with latest technology. In my case it was a bit of dissatisfaction and UK has not kept up to date with advancement & technology and also high recommendation of the Doctor which carried out my surgery that I changed my surgeon for my last surgery. Doctors on this forum have been screened and there work proven by patients end results, so I felt alot more confident going for a HT this time then what I did 12 years back which at that time I had no idea what i was going into, the doctors them self were so new at this in the UK, and it was all about money, I felt that i was not a patient but just a ?????? sign for my doctor.

Ammars27 is correct about changes in the field of hair transplantation. When I learned back in the early 90s, minigrafts and 200 graft sessions were large. Refinement in technique, graft cutting with microscopes, and small blades have been the key improvements in my opinion--rather than technology.

A review of the case that I posted earlier : http://hair-restoration-info.c...21087683/m/159106531 is just one example of how times have changed.

But remember, doctors have scalpels not magic wands; so a genuine discussion of realistic goals is key prior to surgery.

I want to thank everybody for their responses. I of course, want to make as informed a decision as possible. How highly to you all consider the recommendations of this website and do you kind of ignore doctors not screened here?

Well not saying that all doctor's not listed or screened here are bad , but you stand a better chance of getting better surgery from a Doctor listed as they have proved there work so cutting down the risk factor of bad surgery as you can talk to there past patients and see there final results and decide who you wish to use, If you use another doctor you will get about 30mins consultation, about 30 mins question answer and I do not think that you be lucky enough to see any of there past patient except picture that they show you ( you will not be even able to tell if they actually are that doctor patient)

Good luck!

I am happy that I have found this site, and I have made contact with Dr. Limmer in San Antonio. I am in Oklahoma City and there are no recommended doctors in Oklahoma. Dr Limmer was very informative, and I was impressed with his knowledge, and the time he spent talking to me. My expectations are under control, I don't expect to have hair like Rod Blagojevich.

I see a lot of people are going overseas, but I am reluctant, with the current atmosphere, to travel abroad.
