Hair Type - does it matter when choosing a surgeon?

Hey There,

I’m planning a hair transplant and talking with a few surgeons. Some surgeons have a clientele with different hair types, just depending on the area. For example, some doctors may have clientele with much darker, thinner hair.

When choosing a doctor - does this matter? Would your results differ if going to a doctor whose clientele primarily consists of dark, thick hair - if your hair is more thin, fine and blonde? Do different hair types “lay” differently than others?

I hope this makes sense.

My hair is thin, fine and more blonde and a few of the doctors I really like, have clientele with darker, more thick hair.

thank you!

It actually does matter. Someone can do a thousand transplants on Chinese hair and pick up habits and assumptions that won’t do him good when he gets a patient with African hair. That’s quite an extreme example but surgeons will inevitably have a biased sample of patients based on their area. Luckily your hair type is quite common and it shouldn’t be hard to find someone with lots of experience with it.

Which docs are you considering ?

It matters to some extent. For example, afro hair changes direction under the skin, due to its curl. You need someone who specializes in afro hair.

Fine blonde hair, doesn’t require a specialist. But keep in mind your results may not look as impressive as someone with thick, coarse, wavy hair.

Thank you for this response. I’ve been talking with Hattingen and Feriduni. I also REALLY like Couto, Freitas and Ferreiras’ work.

Thank you Melvin. It’s good to hear that I wouldn’t need to look too hard. Despite it not looking as thick as those with the mentioned hair type, I’m hoping to still get my hair as thick and flowing as it was a few years ago.
