Regular Member ostein Posted April 17, 2023 Regular Member Share Posted April 17, 2023 (edited) Currently my FUT scar is visible when I cut my hair with a 4 guard or lower. I was wondering if getting FUE into the strip scar and/or SMP on the strip scar would allow me to cut my hair shorter? Your recommendations, suggestions or experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Edited April 17, 2023 by ostein

Administrators Melvin- Admin Posted April 17, 2023 Administrators Share Posted April 17, 2023 I would favor getting FUE into the scar, but smp works well on scars if you’re gonna cut your hair short. 1 I’m a paid admin for Hair Transplant Network. Regular Member Jackdaniels Posted April 17, 2023 Regular Member Share Posted April 17, 2023 The best way to deal with fut scars is not to do fut, as you never know how your scar will get stretched after surgery.

Senior Member gillenator Posted April 18, 2023 Senior Member Share Posted April 18, 2023 The strip scar needs to be fully healed before any FUE or SMP is utilized. 1 1 Gillenator Independent Patient Advocate I am not a physician and not employed by any doctor/clinic. FUT would have given you a slightly better graft count without much donor depletion. So, doing FUE for repairing the scar area with very limited grafts is nothing big (except when fut scar is too big) . At the end it will mostly balance out but yes its much more preferable to not have a scar and worry about fixing it. And if you dont want to use your grafts there then use smp but keep shorter hair at back as with longer hair smp will be useless.

My first doctor tricked me into it, told me it was cheaper and would "look better". Needless to say it did not look good and is not cheap because you have to deal with a visible scar forever. 1 FUE 2400 Grafts (2023) - Dr. Panine; Chicago Hair Transplant Clinic FUT 1400 Grafts (2019) - Dr. Steven Paul Holt; Holt Hair Restoration/Bella

But what is the time frame on the scar still stretching? Like 2 years after I’d assume it won’t stretch?

Valued Contributor A_4_Archan Posted April 19, 2023 Valued Contributor Share Posted April 19, 2023 Let the scar heal properly and than take your decision ...smp and fue both works fine..its about personal preference ...in smp you will be confined with some specific hairstyle to make it look natural and with fue you won't be tied up as such...bt need to first check out if the grafts would grow in the fut scare or not as i have seen many doctors saying that its always a risk...so few surgeons do a small test first.. 1 Check Out My Hair Transplant Journey --> My Thread 3611 FUE Grafts With Dr Kongkiat Laorwong | Norwood 5 | 2nd May 2023
Senior Member Z-- Posted April 19, 2023 Senior Member Share Posted April 19, 2023 Going to push-back against FUT not being useful anymore, as someone that is very happy with his FUT scar and has done both FUT + FUE now... I think it has it's place for young men who are higher Norwoods or folks who really need to maximize their lifetime grafts. That said, there are only maybe 3-5 doctors worldwide or so who I'd trust with an FUT scar (e.g. Konior, Hattengen, Nadimi, etc.). There's no point getting an FUT scar if it's going to be wide and ruin the ability to draw from hairs in the surrounding areas. If you have beard grafts, they are supposed to work quite well in FUT scars.
