Jb2828
Hi there, I went out for a hike not knowing about the sun exposure thing. I’m 18-19 days post op (2.5 weeks). I was outside for 3 hours on a hike in 17’C Uv6 on a sunny day from 12-3PM. I got a fairly mild sunburn, definitely just first degree. Am I screwed? Did I kill my follicles? Or will this just impact skin?
Valued Contributor Berba11 Posted March 26, 2023 Valued Contributor Share Posted March 26, 2023 Follicles will be fine. The redness might linger for a bit longer if you caught the sun on the recipient areas but again, you'll probably be just fine. Just make sure to take extra care over the next few months on hot sunny days (hats, suncream etc).
Senior Member JohnCasper Posted April 1, 2023 Senior Member Share Posted April 1, 2023 Minor sunburn shouldn't cause any damage. Those follicles are alive and well and will produce new hairs in 3-4 months. I am an online representative for Carolina Hair Surgery & Dr. Mike Vories (Recommended on the Hair Transplant Network). Rahal Hair Transplant
@Jb2828, As someone else already stated, the newly transplanted hair follicles will be fine. The sun exposure you experienced have won’t harm them however, you may experience some extended redness, or inflammation. To avoid this in the future, I recommend wearing a hat, or even potentially using a spray on sunscreen on the scalp. I hope this helps.
