Regular Member SilentUser Posted November 29, 2022 Regular Member Share Posted November 29, 2022 Since I'm losing my hair I'm experiencing severe itch on my scalp. Especially in my temples and crown, the areas most prone to mpb. Does anyone have the same issues? I do not have dandruff or any other issues on my scalp. Regular Member hockeyman Posted November 30, 2022 Regular Member Share Posted November 30, 2022 I did. I went through a period from April to August where I was shedding a lot of hair from my crown. In fact, I lost more hair during that short period of time than I ever had previously. This was accompanied by a pronounced itch and greasy hair. This was all very uncharacteristic for me. Senior Member BurnieBurns Posted November 30, 2022 Senior Member Share Posted November 30, 2022 (edited) Yes, the DHT itch is 100% real. I believe any doctor who dismisses it only does so because it hasn't been studied Edited November 30, 2022 by BurnieBurns
Regular Member jr1986 Posted November 30, 2022 Regular Member Share Posted November 30, 2022 I've had this for years in my thinning area. I do not necessarily think it correlates to aggressive balding, more scalp sensitivity. I've had it a long time and still have a lot of hair left. Washing hair helps for a day or 2, but repeated washing every day with head and shoulders makes it worse! It's aver fine line, so I normally only use shampoo once or twice a week. Oral finasteride helped a lot, but I had to stop due to sides. I'm now on topical finasteride with propolyne glycol and alcohol, this has made the itch worse. So now I can't tell if topical is helping or not. Going to get nizoral and see if it helps

Regular Member hockeyman Posted November 30, 2022 Regular Member Share Posted November 30, 2022 I'm on the xyon topical finasteride now and that seems to have stopped it (knock on wood). I also use baby shampoo. As I mentioned, when I had the "the itch" I also had really greasy hair which was very strange.
Regular Member SilentUser Posted November 30, 2022 Author Regular Member Share Posted November 30, 2022 I'm suffering from greasy hair all my life, wash it in the morning and have to do it again in the evening. Hate it. I was thinking about switching from oral Fin to topic Dut, was talking to a guy who had great success in combination with oral minox. Maybe switching to topic is they key to stop the itch, idk. Also using only natural shampoo without silicones, does not change anything for me
Senior Member LaserCaps Posted November 30, 2022 Senior Member Share Posted November 30, 2022 What drives guys is testosterone. This gets broken down to DHT which we know is an irritant to the follicle which results in hair loss for many guys. Not sure if this "conversion" nor the fact there's hair loss involved, is the reason for the itch. Itching, burning sensations, or something else affecting the scalp, is typically the result of a "condition" other than hair loss. I would encourage you to do to a Dermo pathologist and have them biopsy. You will then know for sure the true reason. If you do have family history of hair loss and you are thinning because of it, yes, continue the medical regimen. This, in itself, is not what's causing the itch either. Or is it? Rogaine, if you're using it, contains alcohol which dries the scalp. Is that the culprit? Unlikely but discuss with the doctor during the visit. Regular Member SilentUser Posted November 30, 2022 Author Regular Member Share Posted November 30, 2022 the itch started when my hair loss started, I literally just realized my hair loss because of the itching scalp. started my treatment about 6 months after that. I already got my scalp checked by several dermatologist, skin is healthy, absolutely no signs of issues that are affecting my scalp
Senior Member Curious25 Posted November 30, 2022 Senior Member Share Posted November 30, 2022 The DHT related itch has been anecdotally talked about for decades, and I personally believe there is substance behind it. Greasy hair from DHT related miniaturisation is also something else that I have read anecdotally many times before, and have also experienced - which reduced dramatically when I started on medication. I think using Nizoral 2x a week will certainly help with any sort of inflammation/potential itching - however given your substantial regime in play already, I would certainly consider revisiting a more specialist scalp dermatologist or trichologist, for further investigation. FUEUF
Keto shampoo helps me with that. But I have to use it 2/3 times a week, leaving it for 3 songs when in shower 🙃
Rahal Hair Transplant
@SilentUser, Hair loss and scalp itch don’t necessarily go hand-in-hand. However, if you have some kind of underlying scalp condition such as seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis or a severe case of dandruff, that might cause it. It’s possible to have both androgenetic alopecia and one of these conditions which may be why you’re experiencing scalp itch and hair loss or it’s possible that one conditions is causing a non-genetic type of hair loss. to be sure, I suggest consulting a dermatologist or a hair loss specialist who can diagnose what’s going on. I hope this helps. Rahal Hair Transplant Rahal Hair Transplant Institute - Answers to questions, posts or any comments from this account should not be taken or construed as medical advice.
