22...Is the shedding phase really that bad...before I start taking propecia!

I still have a good amount of hair. My crown isn't thin and my hairline isn't receding too much. I mean you can barley tell.

But my question is.....My dad started to lose his hair around 24 and had thick hair like me at the same age before he lost it. Would it be wise of me to start propecia now. The only time my hair sheds is in the shower. I mean the shed isn't bad, but still i never shed like this 2 to 3 years ago. So I'm thinking about just starting propecia early to be on the safe side. (My moms side all have full heads of hair).

Oooo one last thing. I'm really worried about the shedding phase. Is it really that bad. My hair is pretty thick you wouldn't be able to tell i have mpb. I'm worried starting propecia will just ruin my hair and make my balding process even worse. I even asked my doc the same question he advised me that he hasn't had one patient complain about shedding. Either he's been lucky enough to have all his patients experience great results or i'm just worrying way way to much about the shedding. And believe me I've done my research for the past year. So i'm not just jumping into this.

Would love to hear what people first experienced as far as shedding when they first started.

Kinda of. My derm was more like like you know ur hair and you would know best as far as whats going on with it. But, it was upsetting that my derm didn't do a scalp count or whatever you call it. He was more of questions looked at my hair for about 5 mins before he told me about propecia.

But my pattern of hair is def like my fathers was before he lost his. So I def know something is up, if thats what ur asking

I'm 24 so I know what you're going through.

I would recommend starting propecia and sticking with it. I would not recommend rogaine unless you are having serious issues in the crown area of your head. I made the mistake of just trying rogaine because it was less expensive than propecia, and the amount of hair starting rogaine caused me to lose still hasn't been recovered. I would have been better off just using propecia.

What type of shedding did you have with propecia.

O and the crown isn't a problem for me at all as of now. But I heard propecia can be good for parts other than ur crown.

Ferrari, I think you stated you have been taking Propecia for 22 months?

My questions are this:

1) How is your libido? And are you worried about it at this point?

2) How long do you plan to keep taking it and why?

3) Are you planning on a HT? And do you still apply rogain foam?

Thanks until then

Libido is fine, it doesn't bother me anymore. It bothered me the first 6 to 12 months though. I take a lot of vitamins, and know there are vitamins/supplements out there to increase libido, so if it really bothered me, I would have started taking something for it.

I'll probably stay on propecia and use rogaine for the rest of the foreseeable future. Male baldness runs in my family, and I don't want to start looking like my uncles any time soon.

No plans for a HT, when my hair isn't wet, I don't look like I'm missing much hair. I still apply it.

The shedding has BEGUN! I feel like a chemo patient, its coming out in clumps... but my hairs real long right now, so I'll be able to hide it with my curls since it makes it look thicker. I'm excited since I don't have any side effects, ive been taking Arginine, I hear its great for improving ones sex drive... And MAN has it done so, I'm super horny, so I'm guessing either Arginine is working or the proscar just isn't affecting me?

I am 23, have been taking finasteride (1 mg) for just over a year now, so I began when I was 22. I did not experience a noticeable shedding period. If I did, it was nowhere near as bad as what I was expecting after reading horror stories on this forum.

Hey, I find that I shed most in the shower and it occurs for a day or two, then stops. And then I'll be like man my hair is looking GOOOOD then bam more shedding. HOWEVER GOOD NEWS! I noticed that new miniature hairs are growing on my temples! This has to be due to the lasercomb or the nizoral... my guess is the comb ( Since i cut back on the nizoral since i have thin hair it made it WAY worse). So to all you who say the lasercomb does not work, I must disagree and encourage those who are just starting to lose the hair to give it the 5 month trial period, at the worse you'll lose 100 dollars (reshipping fee and i think restocking?). Anyhow I was just about to send my comb back when i felt the edge of my hair line and there was stubble! I inspected closer and Voila, HAIR!

No i don't work for lexington before all the skeptics begin to scrutinize my results.

I'm 20 and been on propecia for 3 months. I noticed no shedding, and I think the left side of my hairline might've gotten a little bit thicker in that time. I am a happy camper and hope that propecia will hold what I currently have for a while. I'd just get on propecia while you can.

I think 1 MG a day (one pill). Sometimes I have OCD and forget that I already took a pill and will take 2. But this happens rarely. So far, no sides. I think I might be less horny when I am alone. But whenever I'm the presence of a hot girl, it is not an issue at all. I get rock hard. But even if I am less horny alone, I still have my days where I'll masturbate 5 times a day.

Hello im 24

I started fanatride three weeks ago. (Same time as my hair surgery) I had 1600 graft in front, and finatride is because I am being a little bit thin in the crown, so hopefully it Stobbe my hair loss. I must admit that I have lost a part of my normal hair, but whether it is due, my surgery or finatride - or perhaps both? I know not, but I am also only three weeks in, so only time will tell

i lose about 50-60 in the bath and there are about 2-4 each time i run my fingers through my hair..

but i have to admit it is a very hard time i am going through now, to become more thin hair when im finally got a operation is not funny :(

greetings from Denmark

Hero85,

At only 3 weeks out from hair transplant surgery, it's normal to lose some of your natural hair. This is referred to as shock loss. Finasteride may or may not also be playing a role in some temporary shedding since you just started taking it. However, keep in mind that this phase (as upsetting as it can be) is only temporary. Several months from now, your hair will start to grow back and mature and thicken for the next year. In the meantime, try not to stress over it.

Feel free to create a patient website or create a hair loss blog on this community to share your hair restoration journey with photos.

Best wishes,

Bill
