Regular Member cody Posted January 16, 2009 Regular Member Share Posted January 16, 2009 I was just curious to what the lifespan of a transplanted hair can be expected to be. Apparently 50-100 hairs fall out everyday and are replaced. But if the transplanted hair falls out will it grow back?

Steven Gabel, MD, FACS
Cody Are you asking if the transplanted hair falls out immediately after surgery, or months later when the hair "re-enters" the normal hair cycle. Senior Member dabuski Posted January 16, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted January 16, 2009 Transplanted hair is from the safe(grows for life) zone at the rear of a persons head and as such should be safe when repositioned on to the balding areas of the scalp. Regular Member cody Posted January 17, 2009 Author Regular Member Share Posted January 17, 2009 I'm definitely aware that the transplanted hair sheds after a couple weeks. I was just wondering after a few years after what happens to the hair that falls out? Does the follicle just grow a new hair or is that transplanted hair gone forever? Bill - Seemiller
cody, Transplanted hair is just like regular hair once it starts to grow back after the initial shed, typically 3 to 5 months after surgery. Therefore transplanted hairs after they shed are also replaced, just like natural hair. Bill
