Senior Member deitel130 Posted July 24, 2020 Senior Member Share Posted July 24, 2020 Has anyone been asked to perform scalp Laxity Exercises and has that helped to get a wider FUT strip during surgery? I want to maximize the amount of grafts. How long each day did you perform and what was the outcome at surgery based on what you were initially told. Looking for others to share their experience. Administrators Melvin- Admin Posted July 24, 2020 Administrators Share Posted July 24, 2020 I haven’t had FUT, but I know that the exercises do work. I’m going to link @H & W Doug who has a lot of experience on the subject, hopefully he can chime in. I’m a paid admin for Hair Transplant Network. I do not receive any compensation from any clinic. H & W Doug
Thanks Melvin. Hi deitel130, The exercises definitely do help in most cases. We have seen patients for consultations where we felt the mobility of their scalp might have only yielded around 3,000 grafts if surgery was performed that day but we wanted closer to 4,000 or more. If the patient diligently performed the scalp laxity exercises up to an hour a day, within 6 - 8 weeks we could likely harvest 4,000 or more depending on how committed the patient was to the exercises. All scalps are not created equal and some can be manipulated better than others but for the most part an improvement should usually be possible. You can refer here for more details on the exercises: https://hassonandwong.com/scalp-laxity-exercises/ I am a salaried employee of Hasson and Wong since 2001. Opinions expressed are my own. An FUT procedure for me would probably take 1600-1800 grafts. Will doing stretches in that case just be for the benefit of a better scar?
Senior Member voxman Posted July 29, 2020 Senior Member Share Posted July 29, 2020 Absolutely! I had a 2500+ scar - did exercises - and the scalp yielded another 2500 with a new scar over the old - almost invisible now. I'm serious. Just look at my face. My Hair Regimen: Lather, Rinse, Repeat. Senior Member gillenator Posted July 29, 2020 Senior Member Share Posted July 29, 2020 I think it's safe to say that doing the exercises surely cannot hurt the laxity...😁 Gillenator Independent Patient Advocate I am not a physician and not employed by any doctor/clinic.
