What's the consensus on Dutasteride? Should I switch back to fin?

I took fin for 2 years and then switched to Dut approximately 2.5 years ago.
I didn't notice any dramatic improvements with Dut.
If anything, I may have lost some ground even on Dutasteride.
Given my experience, I am wondering if Dut is really worth taking?

Should I switch back to finasteride? And will I lose significant ground if I make the switch?

Interesting.  Did you consult with a doctor before switching? If so, ask him if the mechanism of action is the same or slightly different.

For long term users of Fin, it does take a full year to get it totally off your system.  So, if you've been consistent, a week or two off the med would have little to no affect.  Just resume the use.  So, consult with the doc and so what you must.  The key is to continue medical therapy.  You may even want to add another modality to the mix.  How about PRP or Laser, (or both).

To be honest, instead of choosing between fin or dut, i just decided on stacking the two. Some may think it is unnecessary/dangerous but in my case i have not suffered from any sides at all. My current regimen is 2.25mg fin daily and .5mg dut every 3 days. This combo has allowed me to hold onto my existing hair. It stopped any further hairloss i was experiencing. Good luck

Doesn't dutasteride block strictly more 5AR conversion than finasteride? From what I understand, it blocks more type 1 5AR than finasteride, and it also blocks type 2 5AR (which finasteride doesn't do, but this type of 5AR is less understood anyway and not known to affect hair loss).

Exactly. All i know forsure is that if you are hoping to stop hairloss or looking to get a transplant you better be on an DHT inhibitor. Especially if you were like me, who started experiencing a receding hairline at the age of 15!

You can try alternating them both. Take fin one day and dutasteride the next.

Always, always talk with your doctor about this before making any decisions.
