Dr. Vladimir Panine
This 30-year-old gentleman had a hair loss pattern similar to a class 4 on the Hamilton Norwood hair loss scale. His goal was to rebuild his hairline and add density to the frontal 1/3-1/2 of his scalp. Taking his age and hair loss into consideration we discussed his expectations. The patient’s goal was well suited to his needs and therefore I planned the surgery accordingly. I wanted to reconstruct a hairline that would be suitable for him as he continued to age. A total of 2,579 grafts were used. I used a significant amount of single hair follicular units which allowed me to create a very natural hairline. This action will allow him to comb his hair without anyone detecting that he has had anything done. These are his results at 2 weeks, 4 months and 6 months post-op. His results will continue to improve over the next 6-9 months. The patient is extremely happy with his results and is on Finasteride to try and control further hair loss. Senior Member Mycroft Posted June 29, 2020 Senior Member Share Posted June 29, 2020 This looks amazing for six months, and with a pretty short hairstyle on top of that. Couldn't have turned out much better for him.

Senior Member HTHope Posted June 29, 2020 Senior Member Share Posted June 29, 2020 Any reason why the harvesting went so high up into the crown?

Dr. Vladimir Panine
HTHope & Curious25, That’s a good question! Harvesting is done in the “safe zone”, which is determined on a case by case basis. Each patient’s density pattern can be different. This patient’s safe zone varied from what you’d see in a textbook. It’s very important that the physician looks carefully, with high magnification, to determine where grafts can be safely extracted. Myself, I use the Carl Zeiss 8x loops to examine the scalp, hair density and the patterns established by current and predicted future hair loss. If a physician doesn’t adjust the extraction area to accommodate the patient’s individual patterns you can end up doing harm to the patient and the patient’s results will suffer. Mycroft JohnAC71 Nounours & Melvin-Moderator Thank you for the kind words! I truly appreciate it. Finally, I apologize for the late response. We have continued to be very busy with surgery, despite the pandemic. That said, I wanted to take the time to reply just as soon as I had a moment. Thank you all again for the great questions and comments! 1 Dr. Vladimir Panine is a member of the Coalition of Independent Hair Restoration Physicians.
