The big question !?

Recommended Posts

Hi community,

So, I'm ready to make a decision on my HT surgeon.

My question to the masses, what really sets surgeons apart at the top tier? Is it much of a muchness?

I'm based in the United Kingdom, have consulted with the top surgeons there London and Portsmouth (£10k+) for my treatment. I'm also in the process of vetting Belgium Drs too.. (approx 3k grafts as point of ref)

I've spent days, weeks and months trawling through these forums.. And i'm still left with an overarching question. With the financials removed, when we're looking at these top surgeons - what should I be looking for that sets them apart? Or, at this level, are they very similar in results/standards/delivery?

Be useful to get your insights..

When searching for a doctor who can justify your hair transplantation procedure, you must take care to study their:

1. Results: Consistency must be a major component

2. Artistry: Not just in the patients with a good donor area but in patients with higher grades of baldness and with limited donor

3. Wholesome treatment: They should be able to take care of your pre-existing hair also and prescribe you medications for the same

4. Specialisation: The clinic must only be specialised in hair transplantation and must perform surgeries everyday

5. Reviews of the Doctors: Patient testimonials, general reviews, Doctors' reputation; all these matter a lot

6. The clinic's relationship with their patients is also a defining factor.

There are many very highly qualified hair restoration physicians around the world. You have to decide if you are willing to travel if necessary or seek out what you feel is the best local doctor. I often tell patients that if they did research to find what they thought to be the 8 best clinics and had a consultation at each, you would eliminate 5 of the clinics immediately for one reason or another and then would have to choose from the remaining three clinics. You likely would use your gut feeling/ instincts to choose your doctor. Good luck!

Hairline design is important, donor management as well. But something that I think is even more important is how a surgeon treats unhappy patients. That is what truly separates a good surgeon from a great one.

I am still in the researching phase myself and looking at so many results from top surgeons, they do seem to blend into each other... While top surgeons are extremely proficient technically, they seem to have different ideals of naturalness and aesthetics. What should also boost your confidence is if you can find past cases from the doctor of patients who have the same hair type and wear their hair similarly to you. If you can look at the after for those patients and say "I like that" then you know the doctor is much more likely to give you the result you're looking for.

Experience, skill, talent, and "proven results", especially with other individuals who have a similar pattern of loss and hair characteristics as yourself.

Results are what count!
