The DOW will drop much further, possibly to down to 7-10K, I’ve worked in finance and followed the markets for almost all my adult life and especially the pre & post 2008 catastrophe....this is going to be way worse for all industries and people’s former livelihood, sadly.

Yea, you are right. It could.  It is a very unstable situation right now.  Nothing of this magnitude has occurred in modern times.  Whether its a conspiracy or not, we just gotta get out of this mess soon.  All this trillions of dollars will really do jack shit if this keeps up.  You can’t function with uncertainty like this.  Definitely, something not to be taken lightly.

That’s what scares me the most, the economic fallout. I’m not trying to downplay the illness, but illnesses affect a small percentage of the population. The economic fall out will affect us all.

Entire industries are at near collapse. The cruising industry has been brought to a halt. No revenue for months. While, they’re a multi-billion dollar industry, they cannot keep that up for much longer.

Mom and pop shops are the most unfortunate. There’s never any bailouts for them. I’m sure Carnival cruises will get a bailout. Maybe even the airlines. That’s why it’s important to still support your local businesses.

Melvin, economic fallout is huge.  I mean we can have these trillions to keep middle to lowe class afloat but its temporary.  We need to get out of this like within 60-90 days.  This cant sustain for the 18 month target they are talking about.

All key industries are near collapse

-Airline

-Tourism

-Cruises

-Priceline / Expedia service industries etc

-Rentals

-Automotive (so many folks about to default on them leases and financed vehicles)

-Student Loans

-Any business/commercial loans for small businesses

-Restaurants

-Bars

-Auto Repair shops

you can literally keep going

When folks need to save money to buy food, everything changes.

It really isn’t looking good.

Especially, mom and pop shops- they are getting destroyed.  You got towns charging high taxes on properties still and folks cant keep up with lease agreements due to no business.  Forced curfews just added to the destruction.  It is sad, but a whole lot more than 1 or 2 trillion USD will be needed here.

A lot of bankruptcies are bound to happen along with unemployment claims.  These measily 1,000$ or $2000 checks, if they are distributed, will have limited impact.  Imagine the number of folks from the state health marketplace now applying for subsidized care?  No one without a job now can afford the health insurance premiums of like $1200 or mor per month for families.  Quite honestly, the country is about to to into socialist mode-  you can’t survive on capitalism in the current environment and covid crisis.

the 2008 crisis took 6 years at least for market to come back.  This already is a shitshow and can’t take more.  Right now—its not world markets that are important, it is how much gold reserves one has.  Recovering from this will take a very calculated effort.  It is what it is.  Hope everyone can get through it.

We all have our own points of view depending on our personality, location and our own personal experience.

When some of us will unfortunately begin to lose family members due to this, I imagine that this may change some perspectives.

With impending lockdowns for weeks/months on end, this will undoubtedly change how we feel and what we believe after digesting hours and hours of both fake and useless, legitimate and educational news reporting both extremes.

Each country has their own approach. The US have completed just 1/10 of the amount of tests as South Korea in the same timeline, so to believe that only x amount are infected in the US is obviously inaccurate. The US are only now at the very beginning of what Italy and Spain are in the midst of witnessing.

We think we have all of the answers? Leading world scientists can only predict and speculate. The truth is nobody currently knows.

The changes that we have experienced and the measures and effects that have already been implemented around the world in regards to the economy is huge. Due to such crisis, such effects will be long lasting and as @Seanexplained, completely change the course of peoples lives.

Whether as individuals we put this down to a genuine pandemic or mass hysteria, understand that is is fair to say that we will all be significantly effected.

If any of you were in Italy right now, you would not be taking this lightly. Thats a guarantee.

Most importantly, regardless of opinion, I wish everybody their health and safety and that we all get through this and back to a new normality as quickly as possible. Take care!

As I previously commented on what I had heard about the rationing of healthcare in Italy by their panel of “three wise men” at hospitals..and why the death rates are so high (from this virus or other heath conditions)...well, now it’s being reported as fact and not conspiracy theory.

If you are in Italy, don’t leave your elderly loved ones side, ask questions, demand answers, demand accountability and get them and get them to take pure sources of vitamin C/vitamin D/Iron and other immunity boosters if they are not in the hospital as a preventative measure.

It’s not just the espionage you sheepified dimwit....it’s the perfect storm of China’s retribution for Trumps trade war with them, see how easily it’s all forgotten now. Why is it such a hard thing to believe that a major financial and military and surveillance superpower that has gained financial and manufacturing dominance over the rest of the world economy and gained everyone’s dependence on it, that when it’s threatened by a trade war & a populist uprising, that they suddenly have a “viral” outbreak just as the temporary trade impact extension expired (which now they cheer victory that they have zero new infections), and likely not a reason to shut down the brave massive people protesting for their rights in Hong Kong...how convenient a timing....but you’re to ignorant to even possibly consider connecting the obvious dots.

No one will fare better during this Global Great New Depression than China, $3 Trillion in cash reserves, plenty invested in gold reserves, billions borrowed from the world bank to prevent others from borrowing...but hey it’s all good.

Your "rationale" doesn't even really make sense on closer inspection.   So if China concocted this virus to bring down the US economy as retribution for the trade war, then all they have ACTUALLY done is dealt a serious, protracted blow to their economy, now that brand China is in the toilet.   It's like cutting your nose off to spite your face.   Their economy is already sputtering towards a major collapse and the pain will be felt for years to come.

Not really, China will benefit even moreso as they extend their foothold further around the globe, what they loose in export business temporarily is not an issue, and a bearable loss, when they’ve amassed a huge financial/cash/gold/resources war chest, they’re self-sufficient if need be and they will just sit by and wait for all others to collapse then swoop in for the prime opportunity's since the discounts will be rock bottom and the despiration high among the suffering.

Theyve borrowed billions yearly from the world bank and at the top of the list, why when they have trillions in cash reserves...because it makes it easy to prevent other nations from borrowing from the development fund. Imagine your wealthy neighbor constantly borrowing money from your bank a zero percent interest to purposely prevent you and others from getting loans to buy homes/business etc. so that their own finance company can lend it to you at high rates that you could not afford.

No one has to make sense of my “rationale”...the near future will show what will happen.

@CosmoKramer and @Melvin-Moderator I’m shocked at your comments and comparisons of this virus with a IT bug Y2K.

Italy has 1266 deaths due to this virus. Italian Hospitals are not accepting patients over 60 years old due to lack of equipment so they are being sent home to die.

Portuguese parliament today had a general Doctor stating the we also don’t have enough medical practitioners and equipment to treat the amount of people coming in every day and if drastic containment mesures aren’t enforced we will rapidly be in the exact same situation as  Italy.

I do hope that you are clueless to what’s happening because your country infrastructure are holding and for now Covid-19 is indeed posing the same threat as a IT bug but I doubt this to be the case and very soon your government will also be enforcing more drastic mesures to prevent this from spreading because no country is ready to have 10% of its population rushing to the hospital in need of urgent care.

Stay safe and open your eyes Covid-19 is not Y2K!

The quote I posted above 20 days ago to @CosmoKramer and @Melvin-Moderator the very enlighted gentlemen comparing Sars-Cov to the the Y2K computer virus has sadly come true.

Many goverments worldwide have made similar comparisons and underestimated Sars-Cov due to his low mortality rate but it`s very high contamination rate has brought national health care services to it`s knees in every country that failed to apply drastic shutdown mesures.

I sincerely hope you guys are no longer making ridiculous comparisons as there is no precedent for what we are living and maybe now you can better understand how those ridiculous comments were affecting people that were actually struggling with social isolation and the loss of loved ones.

Hope you are now both upholding your civic duty of staying at home to prevent further widespread of this virus as I have been with my family for the past 12 days.

Stay safe people!

We’re in for tough times, not because of the death toll, but the economic downfall. I agree, there has never been something so impactful on our society.

China was already hurting going into this. Not only due to the trade war but also due to their artificial measures to prop up their own economy through useless construction projects, etc. Much of their wealth was a sham to begin with, robbing Peter to pay Paul and such. China's growth rate was for many years questioned regarding it's legitimacy and over the past ten years before the trade war it was estimated to be contracting. China's "numbers" are suspected to be a part of the massive PR campaign crafted by the cccp, much like everything else they "approve" to be discussed. The trade war was quite destructive and with a number of businesses shifting their supply chains outside of China and the long ramp up of orders that will slowly come back to China as the rest of the world recovers means that China will never be the same. Remember, Xi's motto for cccp world domination is that of "patience" so to cripple the world with a virus for economic and political gain is not only contrary to this mantra, it is beyond the scope of reason for the cccp in the first place. Considering the fact that China not only hid, but DELETED the first evidence of Covid-19 when they first learned what it was, and then went on a campaign of misinformation that continues to this day, the idea that this was intentional on their part is laughable.

You make some fair points, some...the thing is we do not know what is true and what is not with China, I do not believe my points are “laughable”...time will show which is more likely the case.

Stay safe people!

You are misconstruing my comparison (which now is much much worse than the Y2K panacea), it is not about the actual “harm” but the level of panic and fear the happened and is happening now, stop trying to insinuate anything different, it hurts your credibility.

You have to ask yourself...why, in a 1st world and wealthy nation such as Italy that they don’t have their shit together, with almost the world highest population of elderly people that their healthcare system is so ill prepared, yet have highly educated doctors and top medical equipment (and why not more of it)?...Corruption by leaders?...why is this mainly affecting the wealthy Northen part?....why, as it’s common knowledge and stated by the dude in Joe’s podcast above, that many of the population are heavy smokers or were and have dibelitating underlying respiratory conditions, how compared to other surrounding nations such as the Balkins with some old and heavy smokers in population that they are not as hard hit?...

As for comparison, India has 1.34 billion people living in very close and packed quarters with also many generations in one home and sadly many slums...and as of current moment their invefection & mortality rate is very very low..waaay lower even compared to other parts of Europe and NYC...

You should ask yourself how many people will die from the fear and insanity created as a side effect of this virus!...what will you say when food and necessitie supplies run dry and people get desperate, with no job no income no food, resort to violence to get what they need for their families????? Ask yourself how many of the already living poor will die of starvation???....ask yourself what will you do when you run out of money reserves and food to support your family if lockdowns and shutdowns are still in place for weeks and months as politicians are suggesting??? Ask yourself what will the mental health state of the nations population be after being psychologically beaten down into isolation, darkness, and dispare??...how many may commit suicide or harm their family and friends or stranger because of the mental and financial strain????

Sorry not sorry and bluntly...We are at the cusp of actual doomsday scenario for billions of people to suffer greatly due to the insane panacea over a small percentage that are or could be affected by some virus that will pass and will have a treatment like the others....but you see this as micro level and not the ramafications on the macro.

In statistical terms...if 1% of the global population contracted the virus and died, that’s 76,000,000 people...compared to the likely mass global disruption/starvation/violence etc that could reach 20% or more of the global population, some 1.5 Billion people at the least.

Current global death toll: 16,500

Its very obvious that those whom think they are thinking rationally, are not.

Coronavirus is scary in a way that if you get infected and got worse, you will find yourself having very hard time to breath. And the fact that you can't breath and you will die of it is so scary. Did you look at people who died from pneumonia? Their faces shows how it's been a struggle and painful before they die because of it. And I don't want to end up like that. What I meant is, EVERYONE should take this virus very seriously because it's your lungs that will suffer slowly killing you in most painful way you can imagine.

Wish you a speedy recovery Gil, at this point, it's not even a question. We are getting hit hard. The lockdown has been extended another month. I just don't see how a lot of businesses are going to survive another month without revenue, while still paying for rent, insurance and their employees salaries. I wonder if the treatment is worse than the disease. On one hand you're saving lives, especially those vulnerable in society. On the other hand, a lot of young people will bare the burden and suffer, it's a difficult situation.

I personally think it’s a total overreaction, the lives we save now we’ll probably lose more due to the issues with poverty this will cause. I know they keep saying it’s not like flu, but in the U.K. we lose 500,000 people a year to flu that never get mentioned, whereas now we are at less than 500 and every one is reported nightly in the news. Surely it’d be better to have the risk groups stay at home and get the money (even full pay since there’s far less of them) and let everyone else get on with work and get the virus and get the herd immunity They talk about. The stats for people under 60 are minuscule when it comes to mortality

Ive told family and friends weeks before and I believe I’ve mention it on this forum, but if possible please get yourself some easily digestible vitamin C powder or other natural supplements high in vitamin C and antioxidants such at green tea and matcha powder (best source of antioxidants), as I posted, China administered doses of vitamin C intravenously and successfully and now even here in NYC large hospitals are doing the same with success, even the main stream media is now reporting on it. Be well.

How many people die every year from car accidents? The world got caught with their pants down. What you're saying makes sense, allow the healthy and young population to go to work and restrict at risk population to be at home. The big problem is testing, specifically in the US. If there were testing booths where you could get tested and get the results quickly things would be manageable, and even a young person who gets the virus could stop it from spreading.

I just walked to the local liquor store, and I saw a local pub boarded up. They still had a banner up for St. Patrick's Day. Small business owners are feeling the squeeze. The one thing I hope the world learns from this is stop all travel from the infected area. We wouldn't be in the situation had we acted promptly and contain the illness from spreading. But no, everyone got to travel in and out of China willy nilly, and now the entire world is infected.

The UK death rate for flu each year is much lower than that; England alone is well under 20,000 a year on average. The worldwide figure is obviously much higher and COVID-19 is nowhere near that at this stage, depending on how it develops over the coming months. I personally feel our Government (I'm in the UK) dragged its feet in the early stages, however the action taken since appears to have been widely accepted for the most part, people obviously concerned for the economy and our health service which is under immense strain and was before this anyway.
