Where to go within the US or overseas, to get a quality FUT, comparable to those performed by Wesley, Dorin, Bernstein, etc.?

I have been quoted between 12 and 14k by Bosley and around same by Maximhair, however, I don’t have access to review their doctors reviews

i understand I would have to pay even more to have it done by one of the top surgeons

are there any doctors in Latinamerica, Eastern Europe where I could pay about half of what bosley and Maximhair charge and still, get comparable quality results as those performed in an NYC? Would I be able to save approx 25% or more if I had it done somewhere else in the US?

Thank you

It sounds like you’re in New York. Have you consulted with Dr. Bloxham yet? I don’t know of any reputable clinics in Eastern Europe or Latin America. Don’t budget shop for this procedure. If you really want to do surgery and don’t like the way you look with a buzzed head then find a good ethical surgeon and if you don’t have the money yet then save up for it.

@Alfie you have a very diffuse hairloss and in order to rebuild your hairline, midscalp and crown you could be looking at +6000 grafts in order for you to reach an acceptable density.

From your pictures it’s hard to tell if you have miniaturized hair or DUPA but I would check in to that if I were you. If you don’t have issues with finasteride I recommend you to start taking it asap.

I know you wrote you want FUE but I recommend you to go for FUE plus BHT (beard grafts).

I would advise you to contact @Dr. Bruno Ferreira who has his own clinic at Porto charging 2.5€/graft which is a quick 8h direct flight from NY.
He also works in Madrid with Dr. Lorenzo one of the best in the world and an authority on patients with DUPA but in Madrid you pay 5€/graft.

Also advise you to reach out to HLC Ankara (2.7€/graft) and Dr. Arika (1.8€/graft) at Eugenix (India) because they are both doing mega sessions using beard and chest grafts to add density (have a feeling you might be needing it).

Eugenix is considered the best in the world for mega sessions and with Dr, Arika you could probably do your +6000 grafts in just one surgery. Check their good results with high norwood cases.

You won’t find any other doctor in the world doing this highly skilled surgery for this price. They are elite level doctors charging a third of what you would pay for the same level of surgery in the US.

Wish you all the best!

@Portugal25, I should have mentioned that I got a haircut about 10 days ago. I carry it very short to sort of “blend” the hair loss!!!

@Sam818, I have not consulted with Dr. Bloxham yet, assuming his fee is likely highest then the 12-14K I’m already getting from Bosley and Maximhair

I’m Guessing that the independent clinics all charge a consultation fee. So I should probably choose two or three of them also, but I would like to have an approx idea of their fees

Trust me the extra money to go to a top surgeon is worth it. It will probably be around 15-20k. A lot of doctors have financing options. You won’t regret paying the extra money knowing you put your faith in a quality surgeon and you’ll know that every time you look in the mirror. Going to a cheaper chain clinic and ending up with a bad result and potentially nasty scar, you’ll regret that forever and wish you just shaved your head. Don’t take my word for it, use that search function at the top right and look for guys that got botched procedures and look at doctors posted repairs of guys that went to those kinds of clinics.

@Sam818 would you kindly inform us where you saw patients with botched surgeries from Dr. Arika, @Dr. Bruno Ferreira and HLC?

I’m sure @paddyirishman @Rolandas and @83mjs would like to know were you found botched surgeries from their Doctors.

I used the search function on this forum and every other forum on the internet and couldn’t find 1 botched result from these Doctors so I don’t understand how you can make this statement.

No what I meant was the cheaper chain clinics in the US the op is thinking about going to like Bosley and maxim hair. I’m explaining to him that if he’s sticking in the US a quality surgeon will cost him a few grand more but it’s cheaper then a lifetime of regret.

My apologies @Sam818 and I totally agree with your advice.
I don’t understand why anyone would ever consider those clinics just to avoid getting on a plane.
@Alfie those that aren’t afraid of traveling for a HT are getting highly skilled doctors do their surgeries and give them amazing results for a third of the price of the same level of surgery in the US.

In my opinion, you would benefit the most from a strip surgery, which means you should stay in North America. The only clinic outside of North America that handle large strip cases is Dr. Muresanu from Hattingen Hair Clinic in Switzerland. My advice is stick with FUT, you will get more bang for your buck, and more hair, once you have stripped out, then you should consider FUE. I would take a look at Hasson and Wong, Dr. Bloxham, Dr. Wesley, True and Dorin, Dr. Cooley, Dr. Gabel, Dr. Rahal, just to name a few.

He’s consultation fee is $50 but well worth it. I think regardless who you go with in the end, the $50 dollars will be worth it.

Doesnt have to be with Dr. Bloxham. I think

Thank you all. There is a lot of information to digest.@Portugal25, I have a question for you let me clarify that I’m not afraid to get on a plane. I’m actually meeting planner. What I am afraid is not knowing how many times would I be likely required to travel overseas from the time I have my first consultation until I go to for my last check up? What i also fear is not knowing how most average surgery cases: how long would I be required to spend overseas for the first consultation? Would I be required to fly back to get the surgery and how long should I expect to spend overseas? Am I required to bring someone with me during the procedure? How many average appointments do I have to visit the doctor including consultation and last check up? If I had the answers to these questions I will be on my way. If I understood correctly: It is worth to go overseas and get the procedure done with the top surgeon, which. Will probably cost me around a third of what I would be paying to a top surgeon in New York City. In other words, rather than spending 12 or $14,000 at hair club or Maxim hair, it is better to spend probably half of that corner and have it done in Turkey, India, Greece, if I recall correctly. I also know that there’s a good surgeon in Madrid and another one somewhere in Portugal. Maybe you could recommend me to read one of your stories, just to get an idea of budget, need for travel, we’re quality etc. I noticed that Dr. Rachel is in New York City. His first consultation is free, can anyone tell how does he compare financially to the other big guys in New York City?  Thank you in advance

@Alfie I had a HT with Dr. Rahal and Dr. Pekiner and only had to make 1 return trip for both surgeries.
I sent pictures and a video of my donor area to get a diagnosis with a graft estimate and then it was a matter of booking a date. On both ocasions the estimate was higher than the total grafts they managed to extract but that’s to be expected because the Doctor can only tell for sure when he sees the patient in person.

I get that you would like to go to clinic several times before and after the surgery but these Docs are super busy with surgeries every day (also on weekends) so I doubt you would be able to have all those consultation you were talking about nor do I think they are necessary.
If you have the possibility to have a consultation in person before surgery all the better because you will be going to surgery knowing exactly how many grafts and the approach the Doctor will take but again it’s not mandatory.

1) He said he wants FUT - why are you saying to go FUE just to plug your favourite doctor in the whole world?
2) He is a tricky case with diffuse thinning and FUT is definitely the right thing for him
3) What are you basing your expert suggestion of "FUE and beard" on? You haven't even seen his beard. My guess is the only motive behind this expert suggestion is linked to my first question above.
4) Eugenix are considered the best in the world for megasessions by who?!?! You? H&W say hello by the way.

Don't go to Bosley or Maximhair. If you are staying in NY then definitely check out @Dr Blake Bloxham . He even posts on this site so you could ask him questions on here before contacting him personally. Really good results but does not do mega sessions which I think you want/need

H&W are the obvious candidate for FUT megasessions as you are already in North America. Hattingen Hair are also world class and also specialists in FUT megasessions but are based in Switzerland, so you'd have to travel. Dr Sever does Skype consultations. I had mine done here and you can see my 9 month results on a post I did. It has actually be 18 months but when I was going to go to the clinic for my final check up and for the final result photos last month, COVID-19 hit.

Don't go to the third world just to save some money. Eugenix is a good clinic, from the results I have seen, but they are definitely not considered the best in the world for megasessions. How many grafts are you getting for your $12-14k at Bosley and Maxim Hair (which you shouldn't go to)? I don't know what Dr Bloxham charges, but I would seriously recommend that you consult with him first as you are in NY, even if you do not decide to go with him. I am not sure how much H&W cost. 12k euros/$12.5k will get you 4000 grafts with Hattingen and then the rest of your budget can be for flights and a hotel. You will need more than one transplant, regardless of who you go to.

This is not something you want to go cheap on. I was in Istanbul in In February and the amount of shite hair transplants walking around the place was amazing. And also sad as pretty much every one of them I saw without exception will need a corrective procedure in a year or two. This will mean it will cost twice as much for a result that is half as good. Save up or go with a quality surgeon or adjust your expectations accordingly.

I have never seen this posted before, but it gives you a starting point.  Fro those who have traveled to, lets say, Turkey is the $3,000 average a good estimate, or are the figures out of date?

@TrixGlendevon anwers below:
1) Because he can get more grafts with FUE+BHT than just FUT.  How can a doctor that didn’t do surgery on me by my favorite? The Doctor I chose for my second surgery is my favorite for FUE+BHT but I also recommend Dr. Bruno Ferreira because he operates on patients with DUPA at Dr Lorenzo clinic so he used to diffuse and miniaturized hairs like this member seems to have.

2) Never heard that diffuse thinning is only suitable for FUT where did you get this information?

3) Ofcourse he could only do BHT if his beard is suitable and if it’s not he should indeed consider FUT and consult with Feriduni, Hattingen, H&W or Rahal.

4) @Melvin-Moderator told me Eugenix is considered the best for FUE mega sessions and from looking at several high norwood results I do agree with him.

I have explained why I suggest FUE+BHT and why I recommended Eugenix and Bruno Ferreira so please explain why you state that I shouldn’t recommend FUE+BHT because patients with diffuse thinning are only suitable for FUT.

Eugenix is by far the best clinic for restoring high norwoods with FUE. Don’t take my word for it, look at their portfolio and the many members on this forum like @harin

Now of we’re arguing what’s better FUT or FUE that’s a different argument.

I will answer these our of order:

4) A couple of points here. First of all, "Eugenix are considered....." implies a consensus, not that this is the opinion of one person. Secondly, you didn't say FUE megasessions, you said megasessions in general. Specify in the future. I would still rather go to H&W over Eugenix for an FUE megasession but that's just me.

1 and 2) As you hold Melvin's opinion in such high regard, he happens to agree with me that FUT strip would have been best. See his comment above.

3) BHT is supposed to be a last resort in extreme/desperate situations for those who have depleted/poor donors and/or need a repair job and so need to find the extra grafts and not a first port of call

How do figure out what Norwood level I am? The guy at Bosley said I was probably a 6 but he wasn’t a doctor
