Howcome some choose FUT over FUE?

I was watching UFC last night and Joe Rogan who had a transplant before you can see the huge scar across the back of his head. It even had a light purplish tint. This made me wonder why anyone would choose FUT over FUE? Or is FUT the only option if you need alot of coverage?

I don't take meds and wanted to get the most out of my donor as I could and have as many of the grafts survive as possible with as little transection as possible. I wasn't concerned about the scar as I am yet to see one bad scar from the clinic I chose. I can also put grafts into the scar at a later date. The scar is not an issue for me, at all.

FUT is a more efficient harvesting technique. You can maximize your donor supply choosing FUT first. Some guys don’t wear their hair that short, so it’s a no-brainer. Having said that, I chose FUE for the fact that I like my hair short. I’m also okay with using hair loss concealer.

It depends on what your goals are and what your donor characteristics are as well (for example, if a patient lacks scalp laxity, FUE will be more appropriate). Here are some great resources on this topic:

My advice does not constitute a patient-physician relationship nor as medical advice and all medical questions/concerns should be addressed to your medical provider.
