Top FUE surgeons for Afro Caribbean Descent

Dear Ladies and gents,

as per the title really but heres a little background.

A few years ago I underwent an FUE transplant in Turkey and long story short I didn't realise that my hair texture required a surgeon with experience of my hair type. I only found this out a few years later when I actually bothered to do some proper homework. Unfortunately I paid the price for my ignorance with a much less than satisfactory result.

I am now older and hopefully a lot wiser!  I wanted to know if anyone could recommend me FUE specialist that have good experience and proof of high quality work with persons of Afro-Carribean descent.  

If it helps I am from the UK but would happily travel for a surgeon with great results and a clinic with excellent follow up care. I look forward to your replies and posting my results and journey along the way.

Umar comes to my mind as Well. But Konior and feriduni have shown some nice results too. If you insist on FUE a trumpet like punch is heavily recommended.

I have been doing a lot of homework. I have found Dr Dieps team a nightmare to deal with. I have actually wasted a trip from the UK to USA as they cancelled last minute!

I have stumbled across Dr Umar and he looks decent. I do wish he head more results but I shall be going through the forums to have a look at more of his work.  I must say I do like the look of what I've seen so far from him.

I shall be sure to look at the rest of the Drs. Thanks again for giving me some quality pointers.  It is much appreciated.

Dr Bisanga, Dr Mwamba, Dr Lupanzula actually stands out to me in this regard.  Especially, for Afro Carribean hair.  Minimal graft use to graft result ratio in general as it seems based on what I saw online and former patients i spoke with (and skyped with).  Some went to them to get repaired.  

The key is natural hairline construction with your hair type with an illusion of density that blends well with your current native hair.  

no nape, no body hair, no beard hair should be used- only scalp hair should be extracted for use for facial framing, front to midscalp to the formation of crown.  

no air or liquid suction device (similar to neograft) should be used when extracting Grafts as i think it may be detrimental to grafts and add further risk to an already risky procedure-  when something is already a risky procedure, you should try to Minimize risk wherever possible.  

whoever you go with- ask them how they will honor in writing and what they will do if result is poor .  Will they charge you more? Will they touch up as courtesy or will they give partial refund or what.  FACT is that Every doctor does this differently in this regard but you should ask this before you place any deposit so you can have something in writing.  Elective procedure or not, it is a valid question to ask for your own comfort zone.

be safe and stay safe.  I am talking from experience as my scalp is damaged at the moment and im trying to get out of this situation of damages caused- which is documented and evidenced by professionals in many places- including federal levels

There is a lot of too good to be true pics and unethical marketing out there- be careful.  This is coming from someone that has no business interest in this field and is a real patient that has been needing repair now More then ever.  I think very few doctors probably do this at the betterment of human beings, but rather for the $$$$$ only at the end.  So, don’t fall for everything and claims made by some doctors. Be safe stay safely.  Wish you the best with your surgery and goals.

Sean you give some excellent advice. No nape, no air or liquid suction, no body hair I think that all translates to NO DR UMAR. I’m not too impressed with his results either. I remember years back he posted a vid of a patient with strictly body hair to his Norwood 3 hairline....a truly bizarre approach that ive never seen. The video isn’t up anymore

Thank you so much  for such an informative post. You have given me a lot to work on.  I will spend a good amount of time looking through the forum. I will then update you on my thoughts of their work.

Regarding Dr Umar, its sounding like if I want excellent rather than decent results he may not be the person to see given my expectactions.  I really want to get a surgeon that consistently achieves high quality results, my lack of homework cost me.

How where the results? He does still advertise those services on his website.  

You really don't seem taken by Dr Umar.  Is there anyone you particularly like FUE wise and has history of working with my hair type.

In a similar position as you. I have curly black hair and I am looking to get a transplant within the next 12-18 months

 

I was sold on Diep until recently. The quality of his work seems to have diminished. I’ve seen  recent cases where he has left donors looking depleted after less than 2000 grafts. 
In addition, his habit of planting in perfect rows is bizarre. I’m no expert but it seems that his methods are used to save himself time and convenience at the expense of his patients. This is a red flag for me. 
 

With that being said, he absolutely has the ability to deliver stellar results on our hair type. It’s the drawbacks I listed above that make me cautious towards his practice. 
 

I wouldn’t rule out Umar yet. I’ve seen some impressive Afro textured results from his clinic. Also, his donors consistently look flawless post operation. Although he doesn’t have the track record of Diep, I believe he is more than capable of delivering. 

 

I’m also looking into Bisanga. He is the best hair surgeon out of these three mentioned, but I have only seen 1 result of his on Afro hair. 

Due to our hair type we have far less options than other ethnicities. Diep, Umar, and Bisanga are all capable of delivering great results , yet they all have their pros and cons.

Wise. I would avoid too. Black hair is already difficult to transplant without adding further complications/worries.

You will know more than me as you will have researched it more than me (I am white) but most of the European surgeons, or at least the ones I spoke to, send their black patients to Lupanzula and Bisanga. I didn't have FUE, I had FUT at Hattingen in Switzerland.

Dr Feriduni does both FUT and FUE and as I mentioned above, I have seen some results on black patients and they were good but I think most black patients still go to Lupanzula and Bissanga. Patrick Mwamba may be worth looking into too but I don't know much about him to be honest as he never got back to me for a consultation when I was in Brussels. He does say on his profile he specialises in black patients though. Maybe check him out too?

So this is my first post. I have been looking to consult with either Dr Bisanga or Lupanzula as I have seen and heard goof things but no response yet, must be due to covid. I’m a black male and am trying to find a doc who is experienced in this feild. Is there any threads showing any results from these drs or any others who have worked on black hair? Any info would be great.
