Harvest already transplanted grafts for re-allocation

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I got a question, let's say you got a dense packing of grafts in the hairline. Then as you grow older and loose all native hair behind hairline.
Is it possible to actully harvest some of the already transplanted grafts in hairline with FUE and then re-implant them back into the balding areas?

I saw this article here which performed it with success:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6026438/

But do you know any other cases?
I saw it's common with repair case of hair plugs, as they can reuse.

You’ve been given excellent advice. Makes me feel good that our forum is providing no nonsense advice.

Bottomline if you’re worried about future hair loss, be conservative. Develop a long-term strategy and plan that will ensure you have hair that looks good now and in the future. Don’t be shortsighted.

I agree...not the best idea and Melvin makes good sense about planning for the future both in terms of future loss and donor management.

Relocating previously transplanted grafts is an unpredictable procedure. often leading to lower growth survival rates. Also, there can be scarring in there areas where the grafts have been removed from. if you are talking about hairline than that would not be acceptable.

The potential for the grafts to be damaged when removed is much higher and requires a high degree of skill, yet even with great skill the grafts can be damaged and even transected during the removal process.
