Hey Guys,

First of all thank you so much for all the helpful info everyone posts here, in 2007 i had a FUE HT for 2000 Grafts in the front region mainly  the temples(but I think it was less) by Dr Alvi Armani, I am aware that the feedback is not the greatest but I gotta admit  he did a job that I was very happy with tbh.  The only problem that I am realizing now that the hairline was a bit aggressive plus you add the fact that I got the HT when I was 26 which I should not have done provided that I was going to continue losing hair; now that my natural hair is receding, I am starting to notice very thick black hairs (transplanted) at the beginning of the hairline and temples that does not look very natural to me at least, I came clean with my GF and told her I had a HT and she still does not believe i did and no one has ever noticed anything.  My question to you guys is how would I get rid of the transplanted hairs and would I be able to transplant them back where they came from?  I would be okay if I am not able to transplant them back but I just want to get rid of the plugs.  I had a consultation with Dr. Rahal clinic (Aaron in Toronto) last week and  given my light research I went in there under the impression that I would be able to to remove the hair using electrolysis or even small punches and transplanting it back in the donor area it came from however the rep was surprised to hear and said that I can probably do laser to get rid of it but I am not sure I want to go to a beauty clinic down the street and let them play with my hair.  I am also on 1 mg of Propecia on a daily base, feedback is very appreciated.

To me it looks like the best thing to do is to add a bit more hair into the worst thinning areas. You only had 2000 done, so you should have some good donor left. If there are a few specific hairs that you want removed due to bad placement or growing the wrong direction, then that can be done, but trying to remove a lot of grafts is probably going to lead to some noticeable scarring.

Thank you for the answer, i really do not want to do any work at this point and wish I could get rid of my HT in the best way possible in terms of scarring.

I agree that doing a little more to enhance the since thinned regions is likely best. However, I understand that this does not fit with your long-term plans. Speaking of which, how do you want to wear your hair after removing the transplanted hairs? If you are looking to keep it short, you may want to look into doing SMP all over the entire scalp and sporting a very convincing "buzz cut" with the SMP and the combination of the prior transplants plus your native hair.

If you are interested in this approach or researching it more, I would recommend checking out Erik at Ahead Ink.

Thank you for answer Dr Blake, with regards to my hair i am considering SMP in the donor area (which is not bad since i did the fue anyways) but as far as the front side and the temples go, I would not want to do anything, my skin there is ok and if I could just remove the transplanted hairs (maybe not all of it but just some of it) and yet keep a natural look that would be great!  Thank you for the suggestion, I will look the individual up for sure :)

I am just shaking my head wondering what you hope to achieve.  2000 crafts is nothing.  12 years ago you were not satisfied with your hair.  Now you have lost some additional native hair, and removing the transplant will put you in a worse situation than you were 12 years ago.  Stop and think about what you are trying to do.  Doing this will cause a dramatic impact on your appearance - basically aging you at least 12 years , and probably much more.  I believe the answer for you is at least 2,000 more transplants.  I have a similar situation getting 2000 in 2011 and 2300 in 2018.  Think long and hard before you do this.  You are throwing out the baby with the bath water.

thanks buddy, i really appreciate the feedback here!!  lol i was more like stupid 12 years ago than unsatisfied, and honestly it was more psychological if anything, I was in great shape and I still am physically and even look good with a shaved head but somehow I wanted that David Beckham's hair  🤦‍♂️.  Worst case scenario I would shave my head and consider SMP.  Another HT, I am not sooo sure I just want to be natural and if I feel that removing the transplanted hairs would leave me in a worse spot from a SCARRING point of view than I would just start shaving to 1, I am not obsessing or anything guys but just wanted to know if I could remove the transplanted hairs and maintain a natural look damage free and I thank every single one for their help and contributions  ✌

If you remove the grafts, it will cause scarring and attract attention.  Better to have hair and be thinning than to create scar tissue in the front of your head.

Scarring and maintaining a natural look are my concerns that I am here to look into with your help guys..

Too many guys think this shaved head look will last forever, and they are staking everything on that.  Styles change.    Don't limit your options.  I am seeing that you need more transplants, but I sure don't see the horrible damage you speak of.  It is easy to make things out to be much worse than they are.  We tend to create horrible scenarios that are only reality in our own minds.  At 38 you are still young enough to pull off the hairline.  I think if you went back to your doctor he could set you mind at ease, and he would laugh at the idea of pulling the transplants out.  I guess you can see that I am the one trying to stop you from making a big mistake.

Dazed, thank you for taking the time to talk to me again man, I really appreciate it.  I certainly do not think there is any horrible damage to my skin, my gf still does not believe i got a HT even after I told her, i remember when I got the HT with Alvi Armani it was FANTASTIC work (I am aware of the negative feedback) but then again to be fair to him he gave me the work I wanted at that time and because I was 26 the hairline I started notice receding was still fresh in my mind and wanted it back in a way lol, my hair loss is SLOWLY progressing but that is because i am on finasteride and minoxidil 5%, i Just do not want to pluck anymore hairs out of the back of my head and transplant them to the front maybe 10 or 15 years from now :D, to your point earlier, I will be ok if it makes me look a tad older so long that the scarring is minimal and the look is natural!

OTFROM TO, I don't think you will just look a few years older.  I was not concerned with hair loss or aging at 38 either, but your perspective changes.  Hair transplants and plastic surgery are the opposite of tattoos where the art never improves the canvas, unless it is covering a scar.  You have a good start, and you will very quickly regret doing anything rash.  Please talk to your doctor with an open mind.  Lets say he charges you 8 k to remove the transplants.  10-15 years from now you hate the results - in reality it won't take that long.  You just spent 8k to go back to square one.  Just to try to get you back to where you are now you have to spend another 8k, and to do what you should really do now is another 8k.  In other words you have just flushed 16k down the drain if you do what you are suggesting.  Think of the long term implications of this my friend your appearance will deteriorate over the coming years, and you WILL  care about it.   The die has been cast, just complete the job.

Honestly speaking: I think you are more stupid now, than you have been 12 years ago and it seems more psychological... 😉

I see no reason to reverse anything, and a good reason to have another transplant and look great for a almost 40 year old. If everyone drives in the opposite direction than you, it is possible that you are the ghost driver.

This fellow has long hair, and you are talking about him getting a buzz cut.  I totally agree with you that he should just get more transplants, but I don't see where the buzzing comes in.  I for one would never get a buzz cut.  I am just trying to follow your logic in suggesting a buzz cut for a man who wears his hair longer.

1. Did u continue losing hair while still being on fin and minoxidil the last 12 years?

2. How do u typically style your hair now? Do you use any products?

Yes I am using both and I feel that hair loss is creeping up on me SLOWLY but surely lol

Thank you for putting things in perspective again, truly appreciate your perspective here, I am not doing anything rash,  all in all things still look good and I will certainly approach visit with Dr. Rahal with an open mind.  I am trying to be a bit wise here and think about my appearance from a long term perspective, to try and put things in perspective for you guys, i did not get a huge amount of grafs (less than 2k), so at this point I would like to remove the thick spaced out hairs that are at the very front that are not too too far away from my real hair line anyways ONLY IF there is no downside to this procedure, I am also trying to book with Hasson and Wong for a consultation to get a second opinion.
