Poor hair growth

Recommended Posts

Hi guys it has been a while since I posted on the site I had my second ht in July 2017 in turkey to which I did my research and I thought I got a good doctor to which I thought would be good. I even met the doctor in London and thought he would be the one for me but after a good 20 months the results are poor and after going back to the doctor who was in London to which I brought my concerns to about the growth of my fue ht he indicated that I could of had mild lichen Planopilaris to which I had a poor hair growth , he has indicated to me that he wants to do a small scalp biopsy and after the results he would like to do another fue ht to give me the results that I should have achieved, I am not convinced on what he has said and if I have one last ht left in me I really do not fancy risking it and going back to that doctor any advice would be grateful thanks johno

If you have don't have confidence in what he is saying, don't go back to him for another procedure. Maybe worth consulting with a couple of other reputable surgeons to see if they can provide some clues as to the reason behind your poor growth and also suggest the best way forward.

I was thinking of that any idea on how much a biopsy would cost here in England the doctor from turkey said to come back to turkey and he would do it there and then he would let me have the results just think it very strange cose my first ht was very good plenty of growth not happy I think they are not telling it as it is and that is what they use when things do not go good

It sounds like the doctor is willing to pay for the biopsy?  Br careful who does the analysis because not all labs are equal in their expertise.

I would definitely get more opinions...it also sounds like a different doctor did your first procedure in which you were satisfied?

If so, why not go back to him?

It would cost about £400 if you had it done private in the UK.

Why don't you explain to your GP how your hair loss is affecting your general health as well as the failed second surgery and your dilemma in getting it fixed. If there is a genuine case for a scalp biopsy that will highlight a possible infection then your GP may refer you as matter of course through the NHS.

Has anyone heard of this mild lichen planopilaris and is it common or do you think it is an excuse as the doctor said that I had about 60%growth

It is a type of Lichen Planus, I have known a couple of people have this autoimmune disease over the years and when it triggers it can be mild to brutal....even life threatening.

This is why I mentioned visiting your GP, even if just to get the all clear.

On another note, I would have thought it would have attacked other areas of your body first before attacking your hair follicles, but I'm no expert. I have a friend who develops small lesions on his skin when it is triggered. I know of another severe case where the person was hospitalized for some time as her immune system was severely tested.

Hello,

I think that you should get your biopsy done asap irrespective of the cost or other factors. Is it progressive; is it stable; what are the doctor's opinions to stabilize it...  You should be very focused on getting it treated asap. Health is wealth. You can think about hair growth etc later. You should start your treatments asap. Wish you a speedy recovery.

I think it was an excuse for a poor HT As they did not want me to right  a bad review about them if I had a mild lichen why did it only  affect 40% and not the whole 100% to which the doctor agreed on that my ht is only 60% that took

Well if you had it before then surely he should not have taken your money and done the surgery. So he didn't notice the skin condition before and during the surgery, but has now noticed it after and is using to explain poor growth? He is either incompetent or untrustworthy.

The thing is that I have no indication of a skin condition on my head or on my body I think it is an excuse for a poor fue ht also after the ht I told the doctor I was very disappointed on how many grafts he gave me to which I was told it was going to cover my crown Area and told me that I must be patience but I  had a gut feeling after my ht was done

This is why taking a complete medical history on every patient before surgery is critical...sadly, not all clinics do this.

The patient's complete medical history should be reviewed with the patient prior to any procedure being scheduled.

johno, was this done with you?
