Receding hairline? Opinions

Hi guys, newbie here.  I've been worrying myself silly because I believe i'm noticing thinning along the sides of my hairline, but naturally everyone around me is saying it is not, and very well could just be paranoia.  I'm 20 years old, my father kept his hair well into his 50s (he has passed away however), all except a tiny bald spot very late on, he always had very thick (even afro-y) hair.  Same as his brothers.  On my mothers side, her brother is in his late 40s/50s and still has a full head, and her father (my grandad) is 84 and is slightly bald but still has hair on the sides of his head, so theorietically you would think I'd be ok for at least a while.

So I'd really value some opinions to keep my paranoia in check or validate it and suggest some treatment options.

Thanks in advance!

Hi

First, sorry that your dad passed, 50’s is still relatively young.

Second, your hair looks great for your age, it does seem to be that temples are thinning just slightly but you may want to go to a professional in person to see what they say and if needed put you on Finasteride and minoxidil to keep what you now have for as long as possible, also you may want to be sure not to use anything to tie it into a tight ponytail or man bun since your hair looks long as that may give you early traction hair loss if you do.

Good Luck!

Thanks! That makes me feel a bit better.  I'm trying to grow it out, and have been for about 5 months.  So what you're seeing there is about 5 months of growth, starting out from a buzzcut.

Its a hard line to gauge, since when I had a buzzcut, I had the sides compeltley cut down to a skin fade, and now they're growing very slowly.  So I don't know if the reason they're not growing is cause of hair loss and thinning or whether they're just taking time to grow back from the fade.

I'll give minoxidil a go and see how that goes down.

You’re welcome!

Could be, so yeah give minoxidil a try to preserve what you have.

Seems like thick hair but with a naturally high hairline. I had the same situation at age twenty. I did the mistake of keeping it long until 31 and sometimes with a tight pony tail.

My advice would be to keep a short and proper haircut. It's better to combat hairloss (traction alopecia+mental stress from seeing long hairs everywhere) and it is also a better style if you have a high hairline but still thick hair. You can cover your hairline and have the appearance of a great head of hair.

As. cosmo said , a little bit thinning on temples points but very good density in hair line .

Finasteride works pretty good on young patient .You need to be aware of side effects , rare but real ( decrease libido is the most common ) .

If you do not have active shedding ( your hairs all. over the place  i.e. on your pillow , computer , shower , etc...) , I will recommend Help HAir whey protein + help Hair vitamins + Minoxidil .

Help Hair protein will lower the inflammation around the bulb and prevent your hairs to go in resting phase  ( same thing finasteride does by blocking DHT )   and minoxidil will stimulate your hairs and reverse the hair cycle .

So I've had some regrowth starting on the right side of my temples, when compared to the older pictures (see above).  While I can't say for sure what I've done to make it happen (I havent taken minoxidil or finastride yet, since im a little apprehenisve and wanted to try some natural approaches first), I've been using Watermans hair growth shampoo and conditioner, using scalp massages and a laser comb in the effected area. Along with the occasional coconut or castor oil hair mask for added effect and had some good results considering its only been a couple of months since my last post.

Ill keep at it and post any updates in future :)
