nice again man, even though the density isn't quite there yet with a small amount of fibres it would look great and or if you were to grow your hair longer you have enough hair their now that it would look good longer and still a good 5ish more months for thickening up.

Yeah, I'm thinking of growing it out a little bit more on top for more layering, but I won't use fiber because I live in a place where it rains a lot and the density doesn't really bother me all that much, as it is now.

I'd be a bit more concerned about density if I were at 10 months or more (and it's really just in the forelock area)...but, as you said, there's still plenty of time for thickening.  From the microscopic images below, you can see that there's still plenty of immature (i.e., fine and light colored) hair in that area, so I'm still relatively optimistic that it'll thicken.  If no hair was growing in the gaps at all, that would be more of a cause for concern, but this doesn't seem to be the case.  While a lot of my hair seemed to pop pretty early on, the maturation portion of the process might be a bit slower for me than it is for some (the clinic told me this could be because I'm not taking finasteride).

From the other threads I've seen, my progress seems to be most closely following the trajectory of cali101, who also has fine hair and saw significant differences even between months 10 and 12.

Also, I should note that a decent number of people see maturation all the way up through the 18 month mark.  I don't really mind if it matures slowly, as long as it does ultimately happen.  If we assume that those fine, light colored hairs I posted above are transplanted hairs, rather than native ones, there's no reason to believe this won't turn out well.

Honestly, I've been experiencing diffuse thinning for the last 10 years...what's another 10 months, right?

Month 8

I've seen some additional sprouting and maturation since my last update.  Since density has improved, I decided to start posting wet pictures in addition to dry, as well as pictures of my hair brushed back (which I couldn't do before).  I know there are a lot of pictures here (maybe too many), but I wanted to capture all reasonable scenarios.  I should be about 64% done at this point.

Some nice improvement, hair looks much better styled even if it’s not dense in the front yet, I truly believe you’re a slow grower so hopefully more to come. Outdoor photos look good.👍🏻

Thanks.  Yeah, a lot of the hair "popped" early, but it's taking its sweet time maturing, so I guess one could say I'm probably a slow maturer (and I also have relatively fine hair -- 55 microns).  In any case, I'm not too bothered by it.  It looks good enough at this point that I don't feel insecure about it anymore.  It's refreshing to actually have a normal hairline shape, even if it could be a little thicker.

And just to prove my point, @CosmoKramer, see the pics I just took with my microscope.  Still looks like there's plenty of immature hair.  If all of the fine, thin hairs in the pictures are transplanted hairs, I have a lot of improvement ahead of me.  On the other hand, if they're actually miniaturized native hairs, then I might be f*cked, but I don't see any reason at the moment to believe that's the case.

Yeah, I see what you’re saying, and I agree, still more time for improvement, I actually saw new sprouts ht hairs even close to my 10th month in the frontal area, and maturation really improved for me about after my 12th month but I believe I am a fast grower so I wouldn’t call it a final result for you yet.

Yeah, many credible sources (including the clinic) say it often takes up to 18 months to see the final result.  The clinic also said that I'll likely be slower to mature because I'm not on finasteride.  Not sure why that would have any effect on DHT-resistant donor hairs, but perhaps it's true.

Also, if Bloxham's estimates for growth (and, by extension, my model) are right, growth actually accelerates on the average grower up until 10 months, so I should theoretically progress from being 64% complete to 90% done in the next two months.

Yes, Dr Bloxham & Feller have a great patient video example of slow maturing of one of their patients and i believe he improved dramatically up until the 24th month if I recall.

Hmm, I stopped Finasteride 1month post op and I have not read that stopping Finasteride might slow maturation but it is a possibility since the new hairs are in their infancy and DHT/other hormones still might be attacking them. In my opinion and experience I believe over combing/shampooing/styling/blow drying the new growing transplanted hair befor 6-months may be detrimental because there is a chance of pulling out the new fine ht hairs before they thicken and gain strength and then you’d have to wait for a new follicle to grow again, which they will but I was just cautious with it...now they’re nice and strong and holding up great even with being microneedled.

That said, I’m sure the clinic will take care if you if you’re not satisfied.

Yeah, I still feel relatively confident there will be significant improvement in the coming months and plan to leave things alone until the 18 month mark.  That said, needing to go in for a second pass for a little added density wouldn't be the end of the world, especially since I need to go back anyway, in the next couple of years, to do my crown (which wasn't touched during this surgery).

Great presentation,

You’re truly a great resource for the forum I really appreciate that. I think your hair looks great, obviously still some time for the hair to mature and thicken. But as of now the improvements are undeniable:

Month 8.5

I've seen continued maturation, as well as some additional sprouts.  Things are continuing to improve gradually and look pretty good under most conditions.

My result should be about 70% complete.

Month 9.5 (approximately)

Ok, here are my most recent pics.  The hair has definitely thickened in the forelock area, though I'm still hoping for some more improvements in the front hairline.  I should be about 85% done now, so....fingers crossed.  In any case, things are generally good, overall, in my opinion.

In my opinion this is a result which unfortunately also confirms the last asmed trend. If you are satisfied then everything is fine. For me the density behind the hairline is not sufficient. You seem to have thick curly hair. If you let the hair grow longer you will be able to hide the leakage well.

But a 90% growth rate of the 3051 grafts I strongly doubt. You still have a few months where the hair gets thicker. This will definitely improve the look.

I don't think you posted enough photos for us to properly judge your progress.

Haha, SMH.  Figures the only comment I get is a negative one.  I guess I shouldn't be surprised; everyone on here seems to be a perfectionist these days.  To be clear, I never expected to be completely restored to my pre-hair loss state.  So far, it appears to have met (and maybe slightly exceeded) my goal of winding the clock back about 5 years.  I've gotten many unsolicited compliments in person -- by my family, my friends, my barber, etc., and I look undeniably better in my own opinion when I look in the mirror.  Would I like it to be a bit thicker, ideally, at the end of the process?  Yeah, for sure.  If everything stopped now, and I saw no further improvements, I'd probably not consider it a "home run," but I'd consider it a strong triple.  That being said, I have seen continued improvements over the last month, and we'll see where things stand at 18 months; I'm not gonna rush to judgment.  If this does turn out to be the final result, I'm sure I'll be able to work something out with the clinic, but I'm definitely not upset about how I look now.

Don’t listen to haters. You look great you have improved immensely. Could it look better? Sure, but you still have time to grow and it’s getting better each passing month. Thanks for keeping us updated 🙌🏼

Thanks, Melvin.  This is the kind of constructive comment I was hoping for.

Looked through most of this but didn't catch/never saw the final cost? I know that's not the most important factor, but it's always good to know.

Just saw and compared your 9.5 month photos to your 9th month and I do see slight improvement...and even looking at your pre op clinic photos to 9.5 and it looks soo much better than where your started! 👍🏻
