Day 206 (Month 7 minus one week):

I'm happy to report that I've seen a significant burst of growth since my last update, and I'm now prepared to declare my procedure a success; at the very least, I'd rate the result, as it stands today, as "good," with many more months of growth to go for improvement to a potentially great final product (where no thinning is visible and it'll look like nothing ever happened).

If I were to quantify things, I'd say the clock on my hair has been turned back about 7-8 years, which meets the goal I set with Dr. Erdogan.  Additional growth will be a bonus.

Nice improvement, you will likely see further density improvement from here on out either from thickening of the already growing hairs or from another sprout burst or both.

Yeah, by now, about 70% of hair should have popped, and 50% of that 70% that popped should now be mature.  If I'm an "average" grower, this would mean that I'm about 50% done in terms of coverage improvement.  If I'm a "fast" grower, I'd be about 60% done.

I agree.

Have you added anything to spur the growth a bit faster? I.e. MSM/Biotin/B-complex/Minoxidil?

Yes.  I took your advice to try the emu and coconut oils.  Also, since the beginning, I've been taking this supplement called Propidren, which contains biotin.

Nice.

Another little tip that may help if interested is that several months ago I purchased and added to the oils with each scalp massage was NOW brand 100% Peppermint oil and added some drops to the oils to better increase scalp circulation/blood flow.

Congratulations, I’m glad you’re pleased with your result at quite an early stage too. It looks really good from the indoor photos and still plenty of time to improve.

Thanks!  Yeah, I'm still hoping for some improvement for a thick appearance in direct sunlight and when wet, but there's enough of an improvement already that I could live with it even if all progress stopped now (obviously I hope it does continue to improve).  My biggest issue before was the loss of my hairline and the way it absolutely decimated my appearance.

Here's what I looked like at 18, before the Noorwood Reaper came in on his wrecking ball, on a mission to ruin my self esteem (and dating life) forever.  I acknowledge that I'll never look like this again unless hair cloning becomes mainstream in the near future:

image0028.thumb.jpg.fd8d53b1e5fb45d2b3c051c389d80e58.jpg

Here's what I looked like at 26, after loss was well underway but the hair still looked decent.  This is what I'd like to get back to (and what I think is realistically within reach).

DSC_0121.thumb.jpg.cc77d8457f11a555018ed72a51e77406.jpgDSC_0085.thumb.jpg.6895e277ce988c07e20550fdfbde671d.jpg

And here I was at 30, when I finally decided things were out of control and I needed to pull the trigger on the transplant.

20190425_074008.jpg.831ed5c4e217a022b8a938aad902f256.jpg20181102_004148.thumb.jpg.d59f43f0656edbdcccdb46f7987a3ffc.jpg

Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I used to be a pretty decent looking guy before this all started.  The loss of my hair was absolutely devastating.  Hell, after it got this bad, I couldn't look in the mirror without getting hit by a wave of depression.

Here I am now, again:

20190711_104550.thumb.jpg.cdde87c6186a7f0898844f4c124e140a.jpg20190711_104501.thumb.jpg.56bb50546694b1407c9b4e781b6f9714.jpg20190711_104517.thumb.jpg.31caab7f798bd291550c9247248637ac.jpg20190711_104536.thumb.jpg.20bb123181b4ab92f9c5f4e05dd46dc9.jpg

As you can see, the difference between now and immediately before my surgery is stark, and I think I've already reached where I was when I was 26.  The fact that I no longer have a "fivehead" transforms my look entirely; this is why any additional improvement would only be icing on the cake.

Yes I agree, the hairline is looking a lot closer to 26 now and a big improvement from 30. Hopefully things do carrying on improving for you.

Haha I know the feeling, it’s only been the last few weeks that I’ve started to realise how just having a hairline can make such a positive difference to one’s appearance and framing the face.

Thanks.  Yeah, I actually made a model to estimate how far along a person is in their growth at any given time (it's based in Excel, so I'm still trying to figure out how to share it with the community).

Here's a snapshot from today:

2051731815_HairModelSnapshotDay209.thumb.png.c38257141f113f2b2739d63034613125.png

If this is accurate, I should still have a while to go.  Microscopic photos taken yesterday support the idea that a lot of the hair still isn't matured.

Thanks for sharing with us and also sharing your detailed knowledge and stats which help people on the same journey.

No problem.  If you, or anyone else, wants to try the model (assuming you have MS Excel), you can PM me your email address and I'll send it to you.

Looking good - definitely improved.  Have you thought about growing out your hair a little to get a better sense of density?

Eh, I've thought about it.  The problem is that my hair gets puffy (kind of like a fro) if I let it get too long, and it ends up looking unruly as a result.

Also, to be honest, I'm not that concerned about additional density at this point.  Since I was suffering from diffuse thinning from the very beginning of the hair loss process, I can't even really remember what it was like to have a really dense look to my hair.  That being said, it would still be nice if it did thicken up a bit more.  Based on my model, I should be no more than 65% of the way to my ultimate result right now, so there's still a good chance it will get there.

Alright, adding castor, and rosemary, and peppermint oils to the regimen.  Like an idiot, I applied too much peppermint last night, which ended up dripping down my forehead and almost burning the sh*t out of my eyes.

I did some some studies that support the claim that peppermint and rosemary actually do stimulate growth.

Yeah, definitely only use/mix pure essential oils in with a carrier oil, NEVER apply it alone directly to skin as you may get bad reactions.

Yes, I’ve looked at some of those studies a while ago that support that these oils may have a positive growth effect on scalp and hair.

Yep.  It was a learning experience...heh.  I'm mixing it with the castor and emu oils.

Nice one man, very relatable to the part where you said a recided hairline with a 5 or 6 head can completely ruin a faces symmetry and with no other way of putting it make you an ugly guy... even with every other part of your face looking great its a real deal breaker. Im only 21 and it took my awhile to put the connection together that my recided hairline did not at all compliment my face. It was only once i realised the reason wearing a hat made my face look good was it hid my hairline and that made all the difference. Its an unusual thing but luckily we took the plunge as i am 1 month post op at ASMED and am right in the middle of the ugly duckling stage. Hopefully the last time ill see my balding ugly head until I'm atlest 40. Then i may be okay with shaving it off.

You will not be able to shave it off due to the white dot scarring. A HT is a life long commitment and the vast majority of patients have to go through several transplants as their hair loss progresses

Yeah, it's amazing how much of a difference proper framing of the face makes.  Completely changes everything.  TBH, by the time you're 40, I'm sure hair cloning will be available.  There was recently an article in The Atlantic about scientists working to 3D print cloned follicles/dermal papillae on a biodegradable scaffold on the scalp to fully restore hair... Seems like the most likely approach to succeed.

Out of curiosity, did you make a thread to cover your progress?  The more information everyone has about clinic results, the better.
