Senior Member clerksband Posted December 28, 2018 Senior Member Share Posted December 28, 2018 Merk manufactures both Proscar (5mg finasteride pills) and Propecia (1mg finasteride pills). And even though a Propecia pill has 5 times less finasteride in it, the cost per unit is much higher for Propecia. How come is this? Is it because Propecia is marketed towards the cosmetic market and they feel they can get away with a higher price vs Proscar (which is a prostate drug) ? Administrators Melvin- Admin Posted December 28, 2018 Administrators Share Posted December 28, 2018 That’s a good question. I assume it’s because one treatment is specifically used for BPH and is covered by insurance. The other is specifically for hair loss and therefore not covered by most insurance companies. Raker
Because they can, It’s all about profitability, satisfy shareholders, seeking out ways & means to maintain or increase profits, that’s life. Do what some of us do, get a prescription for Proscar and split into quarters and you’ll get four days from one tablet.
