Looking for ADVICE on what to do during the weeks before the surgery

First of all, apologies if there are already other threads covering what I'm asking, I've tried to search it beforehand but haven't been lucky. If you can point me to a detailed FAQ or similar I'll be very grateful.

While I've yet still to pick a date or a surgeon, I plan on doing the surgery soon and I wonder if there's some kind of steps that I should follow in order to best prepare. Some kind of medication, diet alteration, exercises, things to avoid... ? I'm looking forward to your advice and expertise. 

Also, is there anything inherently wrong in doing the operation in winter versus other season?
