Couldn’t Have Surgery With Dr. Diep - Here’s Why

Melvin, your analogy of queuing for a pumpkin pie versus the financial & contractual obligations of a hair transplant is absolutely ridiculous. Again based on the information presented - surgery kept informed of monies en route, deposit paid, agreement in place, date booked, time off work etc etc etc for the sake of 24 hours I for one would not deny somebody their allocated slot for “cosmetic” surgery. That’s why in my view money is the motivator, at least can we both agree it’s a business.

Hey y’all .. I haven’t read thru the thread .. tomorrow is suppose to be my surgery date .. I was looking forward to it .. did book 10 months in advancs with a $1000 deposit .. they have a 5 buisiness day full payment policy .. they are so busy nowadays .. I understand where they are coming from .. they needed to secure the date with full payment .. since I do know they have clients waiting on the waiting list .. n everyone I spoke to at their clinic has been nice .. they just strict on their policies .. I could of made the payment earlier .. but I was waiting for the lab results on my blood tests to finish ., n I did not want to drop $16000K until I know for sure if I can do surgery .. they were suppose to get back to me about the results on Friday November 9th 2018zz if they did I  could of just done a bank transfer .. but a bank transfer doesn’t post to their account for another couple of days , even though it’s guranteed money ..but they didn’t want to to do that .. they wanted the money by the deadline of 5 business days in their account .11-12- 2018 on  Monday ..   my surgery date was 11-19-2018.. So I tried the PayPal thing , n would of been able to make full payment on Tuesday 11-19-2018.. I’m not even worried about it if I get surgery right now .. it’s not a big deal to me.. I still have hair n don’t look bald .. maybe I could wait until oct. 2019 .. or I just get a couple other consultations with other top clinics . but yeah , if they are like this prior to surgery ,, if I my operation doesn’t go well ,, I don’t have confidence In them doing repairs n making me happy if things don’t go right .. I think the manager should be more considerate n customer oriented than the bottom line .. I was really hoping to get surgery with doctor diep .. he’s Vietnamese n I’m Vietnamese I’m happy he’s considered to be top in class . So I will always root for his success ..

Based on the information provided it seems harsh for Dr Diep to cancel, undoubtedly he made the final call. Another example of it’s all about the money. I struggle to understand the inflexibility given the fact this surgery was booked & deposit paid as per conditions of the contract many months in advance, another twenty four hours shouldn’t be a deal breaker. Suppose when you have a waiting list as long as his you can do what you want, business as usual then.

Raker,

Of course it’s all about money, do you actually think hair restoration is a charity? I could understand if we were having a discussion about feeding the homeless or the American Red Cross. But hair transplant surgery is a cosmetic elective procedure and at the end of the day,  those who can pay for it, can undergo the procedure. Otherwise, doctors wouldn’t do it.

Now don’t get me wrong… I’m not saying that doctors don’t care about their patients. Of course they do and they want the best for them.   But, they do expect to be paid and if they can’t get paid, then they can’t proceed with the procedure.

Now I will admit, I personally think the clinic should have done something to work something out especially since legend  stated that the money was there. Perhaps he could’ve done something to prove the money was there by showing an account statement?   Perhaps that may have satisfied the clinic? I really don’t know how  much conversation and negotiation there was however, I do think that something should have been worked out rather than just seeing the procedure get canceled.

But don’t make a mistake in thinking that hair transplant surgery is a charity. It is an elective cosmetic procedure that most people don’t get or have money for.   The lucky few that do undergo the procedure and doctors get paid well for it. And they should.

Obviously money is the motivator, this is cosmetic surgery. When you go to work, is money not the motivator? It’s silly to even bring this up. That doesn’t mean you don’t take pride in what you do or even work ethically, but acting like this is a charity is ridiculous. The agreement between patient and surgeon is to pay for the service provided. If the agreement is to pay before the procedure, then the patient must comply otherwise there is another patient willing and waiting.

With that said, I do sympathize with Legend, he’s actually a good guy and I know he was excited about getting the surgery done, it was an unfortunate event. I know Dr. Diep personally and he’s the kind of guy who takes pride in his work and try’s to help his patients as best he can. If legend were to set up a consultation with him and explain what happened I’m sure he can reach an agreement and understanding. Legend let me know if you’d like me to reach out to Dr. Diep for you.

There is not 1 instance in this thread where any of the posters thought a hair transplant is "charity". Just lmao at these moderators. They try to be so professional and politically correct all the time I cringe.

Legend said he had the money, but the means to pay it were unavailable. Therefore, his surgery was canceled because his payment was going to be 1 day late. No doubt Dr. Diep has the right to run his business how he wants. I'm not denying that, but it's a bit ridiculous lol.

Legend - I know you were second guessing some of your strategy for your HT (FUT vs FUE), so maybe this is a blessing in disguise before you go down this route.

Bill, thanks for the response. I don’t remember referring to this case as a charity perhaps you can remind me of when I did? I understand business and its needs my point was simply the rigidity of Dr Diep’s approach, in business there are times that you show some understanding to a patient’s circumstances, this was not evident, period. To me this is not about who’s right and who’s wrong but about assisting the patient towards a suitable & realistic solution for all involved. Anyway, keep up the good work.

Yeah I see it as a blessing too.. I know enough about HT to know that maximizing ur donor grafts in the long run is to do FUT first then u can go the fue route later.. since I grow my hair long ,, I could easily cover an fut scar ..  I would of went fue first with diep n be okay with it .. he would of done a great job, no doubt .. but I also know he uses large punches for fue n my options for a fut later wouldn’t yield as many grafts ..  it be nice if I could get back that $1000 deposit n go somewhere else .. but it’s probably not likely .. so I could wait for a year , or go to a fut specialist like h&w. N still keep the deposit I made with doctor diep as a reserve for a future transplant as my second surgery .. I don’t miss that $1000. I just see it as I spent it already .. . . either way , I’m okay . Thanks for ur guys concern ..

You should read what you post we’re now back to money again, whoever mentioned “charity” you’re missing my very simple point, there’s no flexibility in Dr Diep’s approach. In an act of kindness/understanding he could easily have moved the goalposts but he didn’t, by your response you’ve endorsed his business philosophy, not nice.

lul some of you guys are grossly overreacting. I guarantee if you were on the other side of collecting bills or an account that had say 6 months at least to pay and still went overdue you'd think differently. It would be great if they did work something out but I suspect better communication may have helped in the short term too.

I honestly don't think its so bad for Legend either. Especially considering he keeps his hair long FUT would suit him and Hasson would do great work for him. Hopefully their waiting list isn't too extensive. I would have considered Baubac again also.

Jean, look at it logically, if you were waiting on payment for several months and you were advised the monies were on their way within a day or two would you decline the payment? I certainly wouldn’t.

I’m getting a consult with h&w.. if I can go with them next month . It will still fit my schedule.. if I must , then I will take that plane trip to Canada .. if h&w don’t fit my schedule then I just wait for diep on oct 2019 ..  or If I can get a cancellation spot with diep by february I rather do that .. I’m planning to get married sept. 2019.. so I need at least 7 months of growth .. in the meantime I can go back n use  rogaine to boost those miniaturized hairs in the hairline .. a little bit of toppik also will go a long ways .. so it’s not a need for me to do surgery right now.. so I’m not too disappointed ..
